My son is 18 years old. This morning he woke up felt a little tired he looked pale. He just laid in the couch all morning then he seemed to get worse he started going to the bathroom said there was a bit of blood (he does have hemriods from constipation ) so I'm think its from that he is also having some stomach pain. He does have a low fever (100 degrees ). He was absolutely fine yesterday he looked and felt great then jus all of a sudden today he just got bad he hasn't eaten anything that I know if that would bother him. It's not like his usual flare. Should I be worried ?

Any new symptoms would be a call to the Gi -
Especially if he has been doing well
They can tell you how to proceed and when to update .
Hope the Gi has good info for you

You know your son best. If this is so out of the blue and uncharacteristic then I would call and FYI the GI. It could be a bug but I like to let the GI make that call. He is probably too old to still have a ped but when something weird is going on I sometimes call the peds office and ask if something is going around and see if symptoms match.

Good Luck. I hope it is just a bug.

Call his GI let him know whats going on also make sure he is drinking fluids. If he gets worse i suggestion maybe taking him to the ER especially if he gets dehydrated and keep any fluids in. Hope he just has a stomach bug :)

Agree with calling the GI; they can give you some guidance and, at the very least, let you know what symptoms would warrant a trip to ER. But, hope he's already feeling better by now. :ghug:

Ditto on calling the GI with new symptoms. My son is 16 and if he feels it is important enough to tell me about(usually I get the average teen response...I'm fine) I will call and relay the symptoms to the GI.

He has gotten worse i called his GI I got one of the nurses doctor has yet to call me back
( why are they so slow to call back sometimes with my luck I won't here from them till tomorrow it's now like 10:30 they closed at 6 so) I really I'm at loss of what to do he has gotten much worse he is going to the bathroom a lot he said its like constipation were he has to push hard but it comes out diarrhea hasn't seen anymore blood (at least something good) I know something is really up he had hockey training this afternoon and he didn't go (usually he goes even is he doesn't do much ) he just stayed on the couch all day sleeping or going to the bathroom. Feel really bad wishing I could just take it all away :(

Is there an on-call GI you can contact? Perhaps if you call your hospital's ER department, they may have an on-call GI (my son's children's hospital had on-call GIs on staff that could be contacted by phone). Be sure he's drinking so he doesn't become dehydrated.

If he continues to worsen and your instinct is to take him to ER, just take him. :ghug:

How is he doing this morning? Constipation feeling and pushing like that only to get d out makes me think he is backed up and only the soft stuff is coming out around the hard stuff. I would be calling again and keeping a close eye on him as I would be concerned that he could be heading toward some sort of blockage (partial at this point but could progress). Could be simple constipation to but I would want the GI to weigh in. Any stomach pain?

Gosh! Sorry this is happening and you didn't get a call back.

Hope he is feeling much better by now.

Crohnsinct he isn't doing better at all he now is having bright green diarrhea it has me worried I called his GI no answer I'm not sure what to do isn't having much pain other than cramps I'm just so worried

Thank you :)

Ha! I like the way you think Niks! I was just about to say time to go all NYC on GI and show up on his doorstep.

Yeah, I think it's time for him to have an evaluation. Hopefully it isn't anything serious, but something is going on. I hope he just gets better on his own soon though.

At the ER right now they are giving IV fluids and medication for nausea amd vomiting ( he started vomiting right before we left and while we were here). I feel so bad for him actually started to cry a little and when a 17 year old boy who never cries ever cries you know he is really sick. Doctor took some blood work they really aren't sure what it is he is really dehrdyted though :(

Thank y" all for the support and advice :dog:

It really does break your heart when you see your kids suffer! :ghug: I hope they can get him feeling better really soon!

Late to this thread... sorry to hear your son is not feeling well! I hope they are able to figure out what's going on. I have a 16 year old son who doesn't cry much, so I know what you mean.

God bless...

Had GI called before you ended up in the ER? if not, you can be sure they would hear about that but I know at this point you have bigger fish to fry.

I had a feeling that's where you were when we hadn't heard from you. So sorry my feeling was right. Dehydration can make you pretty sick to your stomach. I hope the fluids at least bring him a little relief.

So sorry you are all having to go through this.

He is doing somewhat better he looks better i think the fluids helped doctor said he was badly dehyrdrated. they think its just a bad flare , I don't like the doctor he seemed like he didnt know what he was doing (must be new). They are keeping him here through the night he still pretty sick. Thank god he is sleeping :) I'm deffinatly going to have to call his GI tomorrow again they ever answered or called back hopefully tomorrow I will reach someone

Thank y'all so much :)

I am glad he is looking a little better. Hope they sort him out soon. (((hugs))) xxx

Thank y"all so much :)

I'm glad he was able to go home and gets to see the GI quickly... I hope he can keep hydrated until then...
