Sorry to be a pain, one more question about transit

During my pill cam study, the only thing they noted was rapid small bowel transit. I think it took 21 minutes to pass through. I haven't been able to find much online about this, and was wondering how this relates to IBD. (other than, I guess you're not absorbing a whole lot of nutrients during that time)

Also (Ok, I lied, two questions) HOW is it possible to poop more than you eat and still gain weight? :(

Pen, I swear, if one more doctor tells me "calories in, calories out", I'm gonna wack 'em! :D

It's the calories that affect weight gain, not the weight of the food. One pound is 3500 calories, so if you eat something with 3500 calories, even if it only weighs an ounce, you will still gain a pound, assuming all the calories are absorbed.

I did know that, but it's been frustrating. A few years back I lost a lot of weight and kept it off until my third child, and even then, I only gained a few pounds back. I eat well (until recently when veggies and fruits started kicking my butt), exercise, drink lots of water, but in the last year, I gained a lot of weight for no good reason. I do think some of it is related to an enormous amount of stress I've been under, (my husband has a very rare autoimmune disorder that caused some pretty awful things, and my mother has ovarian cancer), but it seems like no matter what I do it's getting worse. I'm hoping once they figure out what the underlying illness is that things will improve.

Mrs VR have you checked into having your thyroid checked???? Could be outta whack.
oh yeah, my primary doc keeps checking it because of the hair loss and weight gain, it's been fine. Maybe it's just my metabolism slowing down (if it's possible to be any slower than it's been my whole life, gah!), I'm only 38, but I really think I'm in in that premenopause stuff now. Yay, my husband is SOOOOOO lucky to have me.

Do you get enough sleep...I remember seeing a news story that when you are sleep deprived your body will gain weight.

That's a good question. Even before all the stress came crashing down on us, and I wasn't feeling totally sick all the time, I was having sleep issues. I had a sleep study done that showed I have insomnia (duh), and mild periodic restless limb bladhy blah blah. So I take sleeping meds now, and sleep much better most of the time. I often wonder if the quality of my sleep is the same as it would be if I could fall asleep and stay asleep myself.
