I tried searching to see if this has been posted already, but the search came back empty which seems to be the case most of time, so I don't know if it's working.

We've noticed that Ella has been squinting at the TV or at books etc. it's not all the time, but both DH and I have noticed it.

She's on Flagyll, Sulfasalazine, prednisolone, Periactin, and Zantac. Could any of those cause eye issues? I've sent a message to the doctor, but wanted to see what you guys knew about it as well.

Crohn's can cause EIM in the eyes inflammation, not sure about UC. I believe clash's son has had issues with this are they red? We see an opthomologist to check for eye issues as part of our regular screening on advice from his GI.
Hope it is something minor and easily taken care of.

No redness that I've ever seen. No complaints of pain or any rubbing etc. Just squinting.

Hi Imerald, my daughter (also Ella) had problems with her eyes it turned out to be very small cataracts from the steroids. She needed to have glasses to help with the blurry vision. Once she was finally off the Pred her eyes improved slowly, she still needs glasses ( but that's probably a sight thing ) but her cataracts have reversed to nearly gone.

Our GI said to visit an Opthamologist annually for EIM of Crohn's. If you haven't seen one yet, this might be a good time. Maybe she needs glasses? Two birds with one stone.

My son has an EIM(extra intestinal manifestation) of his Crohns involving his eyes. His is episcleritis but other EIMs of the eyes can be iritis, scleritis, uveitis. We see an opthamalagist every six months. C's episcleritis doesn't bother him but since some EIMs run conccurrently with active crohns inflammation while others run independently of active CD, we always know if we see episcleritis rearing its ugly head then a crohns flare is soon to cause issues.

I would just get a thorough checkup with an ophthalmologist that is familiar with Crohns and the EIMs that involve the eyes.

Prednisone messes with pressure in the eyes. I had the same problem and got my eyes checked and ended up getting glasses. It helped reduce the strain on my eyes. But it's definitely a prednisone thing.

Thanks Stephyjane. What were your Ella's symptoms prior to getting the glasses?

She complained a lot about blurry vision and squinted a lot. She had no redness to her eyes but does occasionally have dry eyes. She is still seen every 6 months by the optician and the eye hospital.
I hope your little Ella gets sorted soon.
