Hello. I was dx last week with CD and I am due to start humira tomorrow. Needless to say, the issue of immediate/lt sideffects is frightening. What I am most uneasy about it the potential for immediate side effects to de-rail my life. I guess I am just worried about how well I'll tolerate it.

Any thoughts on this are quite welcome.

I am trying to stay optimistic about CD overall, and adjust to this new world I find myself in.

Best,

Adam

Hello Adam. I'll be starting Humira at the end of April. There are many threads on this forum, which say Humira is great for most people with crohns, so personally im really happy about it.
As far as side effects, I can understand your concerns. I have side effects with imunesuppresants like Pred and now 6mp, which is making my candida flare, and basically good probiotics and supplements can help with side effects, if they worry you.
Best wishes, and maybe post an update on how your feeling on the humira. :)

Hey Adam, I know the feeling. I'm receiving my Humira Crohn's starter pack in the mail today. While the side effects are scary, I'm trying to stay positive and focus on the relief that Humira will hopefully bring. I know that the most serious side effects are fairly rare, and I'm willing to put up with some minor ones if the medication will provide me relief from this Crohns flare I'm battling. Good luck!

Ello'ello', have a look at the link in my signature, hopefully it will give you a piece of mind. I too was apprehensive about starting Humira, but it had to be done, mainly because of two peri-anal fistula's.

I started Humira two weeks ago after much deliberation and with considerable fear.
In the space of ten days it has cleared up all the active disease present around my Stoma. For the first time this year, I have energy and I feel great. I am finally pain free after six months or so of grinding agony.
I can't wait to have my second dose tomorrow.
I honestly feel relieved.
I hope yours goes as well as mine has.

I have been on Humira for over a year now and am in remission...it has also repaired my fistula. I was very scared of this medicine also ( I have health anxiety) but since I have been on it and have my blood taken every 3 months I haven't worried as much. When starting it you will be nervous but after awhile that wears off...and you will feel great like I do :).

going well

Thanks so much for all the support and contact here...it really helps. I don't feel that others really "get" whats happening both physically and emotionally after getting this diagnosis.

Anyway, I started the humira yesterday- the 4 pens to the leg. I was all ready for burning and stinging, but not a bit-it just felt like a shot. I did have some weakness in my legs and a little bit of tingly-ness in my feet, but otherwise, no problem. I slept for about 10 hours last night, and woke up in sweat many times, but today I feel mostly ok, with the exception of the tenderness in the area where my terminal ileum troubles are.

Hopefully it stays smooth. Best to all of you :).

Adam, the first round of injections is the hardest. You'll get used to it. It isn't as bad as all the hype.

Stay aware of changes but don't focus in on things too much. You don't want to drive yourself nuts thinking of the sideeffects and catchin things due to Humira. Ask me how I know:lol2:

Don't forget, you might get a bad day or three every once in a while. It will take a little time for things to kick in.

Make sure you get regular blood tests to monitor things.

Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I have been on it for about 10 months and it has worked great for me. I have not had any side effects. I switched to it after Remicade and was so happy. Remicade had horrible side effects for me.

Thanks for all the responses. I honestly am still wondering what improvement will be like. Once the applecart is upset, well you know...

With so many changes being made so quickly, its hard to know what is what, that's all.

Great to hear about so many successes on Humira!!

I've been in humira for 8 weeks now. No side effects whatsoever, the only thing is it burns a little, and might leave a bruise(happened to me once) I take the injections myself, only the 1st 2 were give to me by a nurse.

Some report improvement after the 1st 4 shots, some need more time, but usually within 2-3 months

Good luck :)
