I am on Predisolone and I am tapering off. I am now on 30mg. I am having trouble sleeping along with eating too much! I am worried about putting on more weight. I already have the lovely moon face and the neck of Mike Tyson! I am trying to eat healthy with it which can be hard especially since i am still going through a flare e.g. can't have salad. I just came out of hospital. Advised to eat doft veg and tinned / skinless fruit. I have sore knees right now so not up for the gym. Starting my diet class again but just so hungry! It is more at night but still want to eat more during the day. I know it is a common side effect of steroids but it drives me crazy! Any tips?

I'm going to be no help. LOL. I've been on Prednisone since October, starting at 40mg, then tapering to 5mg. I'm still at 5mg, since my doc instructed me to stay at 5mg daily until my Cimzia kicks in.

At the higher doses, I didn't necessarily feel hungry, but I wanted to eat, if that makes sense. Yes, I gained about 5 pounds. There was nothing I could do about it. Eating right didn't make a difference. Neither did exercise. Now that I'm down to 5mg, I'm not as interested in eating all the time, but I still can't lose the 5 pounds no matter what I do. I increased my exercise and cut my eating, but it's not working. I'm hoping that once I finally get off the prednisone altogether that I can get rid of the 5 pounds. It's very frustrating!

Regarding the moon face and not sleeping. For me, the moon face went away when I was down to about 15 or 10mg. The not sleeping gradually faded around 10 to 5mg. So luckily those are back to normal, but not the extra weight.

I can't help much with you having the "munchies".Just make sure you don't have tempting treats in the house, not an easy one I know.As to not sleeping.I found getting out of bed VERY early in the morning,5-6am,and taking the pred.with a drink of milk worked quite well.I went back to bed of course. It meant that by bed-time it was almost through my system. You can of course tell your doc. and he should prescribe something.I can't cope if I don't sleep.Moon face will clear up a week or two after the course is finished.....Crohns,the gift that keeps on giving.

I got called slap cheeks in school..... that didn't help though :'(

You should really start exercising though, see an exercise physiologist or physical therapist to get you started, especially if your knees are sore.

The weight will come back off. I was on 20-40mg on and off for about 18 months. I usually weight 65kg, and I zoomed up to 88kg. I've been off the Pred for 11 months and I am back at 68kg. It's taken all year, and I thought I would be that huge forever, but I am finally back to my normal weight range. Took about six months for my face to look normal again.
So don't fret about eating too much.

Well I am in a flare and lost 1 stone, I have been put on pred a few days ago, and would love the weight back... I am a guy though so it will be different for me, I welcome more weight it's one of the hardest things for me to gain.

My advice would be not to start a diet on prednisone. I am hungry like 24/7 on pred and barely sleep. Sorry!

You should enjoy this healthy appetite while you can I personally can't put on any weight when I'm not healthy heck I think I'm only 125 pounds rn. But the good thing about prednisone is it also should allow for a lot of energy mby find alternatives to running for exercise like mby a bike or yoga something soft on the knees. But to be a little blunt once your off the prednisone your gonna miss this healthy appetite especially if you start a flare which I pray doesn't happen to you. So try to find a exercise that is soft on the knees and enjoy the nrg boosts while you can.
