Hello everyone hope you are all well.

If you have read some of my posts before you will know I am now on weekly humira for about 5 weeks and before that re-did my loading doses.
Well I was still getting uncomfortable stomach pains and spasms but not as often as before. On Saturday morning I had a bad morning I had D and passed a lot of blood and clots which I havnt had for a while. I felt so tired and sick afterwards i went back to bed.Since then I am getting blood more frequently again and it's constantly on my mind. I have had a fissure before which bled but this doesn't seem to be the same as there is no pain. I am also still leaking ( sorry about that detail) and have to wear a pad most of the time I am noticing blood also on these. I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy and they didn't seem to find any fistulas which is what they thought might be causing this.
Any one else had this whilst on humira? Could this mean the end of humira working for me? Really want this medication to last.

Thanks for reading and sorry if this post doesn't make much sense very tired x

What color is the blood? Bright red blood tends to mean its from lower down or from the rectal area, while very dark or even black looking stool can mean its from higher up in the intestines. If its darker in color, this is more serious and demands more attention. (One should be aware though that some iron supplements can make your stool dark. Dont confuse this with blood!)

If you are tired it likely means you are losing blood and your hemoglobin is low. Depending on how low this is it can really get dangerous. At the minimum you should be on an iron supplement to help restore your hemoglobin levels. If its low enough you might even require a blood transfusion. If you feel lightheaded, dizzy, or have trouble breathing, etc, go to the ER at once.

As a side note, since iron supplements are notorious for causing stomach upset, ive found that the supplement called "Bifera" is easy on the stomach. Its a dual iron supplement and is absorbed more efficiently. It helps raise your hemoglobin levels and subsequently gives you energy. If you cant find that, look for "iron glycinate", another easily tolerated form of iron occasionally named "gentle iron".

Also, make sure not to eat anything that will "scrape" your colon (high fiber foods). Try drinking ensure/boost for a day or two and keep it light. See how that makes you feel.

Thank you for replying so quickly. It's bright red but also has clots in it and a lot of them. I don't currently take any iron supplements so it's not that turning anything a funny colour. I will have a look at getting some iron just as a precaution might help with the tiredness. I will talk to my doctor about it as well and see what he thinks.
As for food I have recently had braces fitted and still getting used to them so it's been lots of soft food.
Thanks again for replying x
