Stoma and Poop

The title might be a little misleading but I am a bit confused about something that happened today.

I had an ilieostomy that will be reversable in a couple of months. Initially after the surgery I had to go to the bathroom and was told that was normal because there might be still some "stuff" left but it should subside.

The last couple of days I had the urge again. After waiting a bit it usually subsided but today the urge was so strong that I went to the bathroom and something really came out. It wasn't bloody or anything so I am not too worried but wondering is this normal when the pieces are not connected??

Is this something I need to tell my doctor, watch out for and does it happen often?

Well, I haven't been operated on but when I ever have any doubt - I call the doctor. I would rather waste 5 minutes than end up in trouble. That being said...doesn't it take a while for your colon to empty? I mean...if you had some meat or something a while ago - that can take a long time to digest. Also...with the pain meds you were on after surgery - doesn't that slow down the process too? I know my husband always gets very constipated when he has had pain meds...maybe that is part of the delay. SO my two cents is not to worry - but call the doctor anyhow!!!

Don't worry about it...you'll have mucous come out (I had surgery over a year ago and still get the urge at least once a day). When you feel the urge just go. If you have alot of blood, then I'd call the doctor, otherwise, don't worry about it.

Wow -- a year.

In a way it was just "wonderful" feeling a "normal" urge to go to the bathroom as opposed to feel the bag filling up and getting heavy.

When I had my Stoma surgery before they closed my anus I had the same problem or symptom i should say. It was really weird and took me awhile to get use to it. I am sure that is what the problem it however like spingirl said best to call and make sure.

Hi I have had an ileostomy for a year now and I go to the toilet about 5 times a day and a little bit comes out each time, my doc has told me this is normal
