Do all of you wear the stoma belts that clip on the bag? If so, do you wear it at night too? Do you find it helps or is essential?

Thanks

When I used Hollister appliances, I would wear a belt...it felt more secure. I don't feel the need now that I've switched to Coloplast.

I generally tend to wear short bicycle type shorts (lycra) during the day if I'm wearing a dress or skirt, and at night, switch to cotton men's trunks with my nightshirt. It seems to hold the bag more firmly in place than the belt.

I used a belt as it made me feel more comfortable and secure. I tended to take it off at night and put it on in the morning after I showered. It is really a personal choice though and on occasions I forgot to put on my belt and went through most of the day without realising.

I wore a belt the first three - four months, as well as a super tight elasticised vest to hold everything in place. It gave me a lot of comfort and security.
Now I just tuck my bag in to my pants and hope for the best.

I'm allergic to all of the tapes that come on the wafers so I cut it off add my own tape and strap the whole thing down using my belt. So far it's been great. Some days I get three days out of a wafer/bag and sometimes I get 7-8 days.

I had been leak free for about 17 months until recently. I saw the doc just today. He suggested that weight loss and exercise can change the way a stoma performs - mine has been all but disappearing into my skin when active, and only sticks out about 1/4" when it's not active. I use a convex bag, and he recommended that I use a belt for added security.

So - I'll give it a shot!! Hope it helps!
