I am suffering from stomach problem from last 2 years. Distention, rumbling, heaviness, loose stools, no appetite, weakness and lethargy in body.

Undergone colonoscopy, endoscpy, sigmodoscopy, blood tests, upeer barium GI last year and all reports were normal. Though biopsy were not done because of normal colono.

Now this year again started feeling bad and went to a new GI. He saw my all last reports and ordered blood test, CT scan - all again normal. He said that I dont have IBD and its IBS.
But with my condition I am becoming highly suspicious that it's IBD and doctors are possibly not able to diagnose somehow. Though both of my GI are very good.

Can forum members please help me what should I do. It's just my suspicion or I need to again go for colonoscopy with a new docotr to check. Please advised me.

Thanks

uhm maybe because crohns can be anywhere between your mouth and bum they arent looking in the right spot that its at idk about uc or maybe you just dont have it severe enugh that they are noticing it? im not really sure sorry i couldnt be of much help but thoes would be my suggestions. good luck with everything! and welcome to the forum!!^-^

Hey, Appu - welcome to the forum!
The very first c-oscopy I had done was normal, but my GI took biopsies. It was a good thing too, as my colon looked fine, but I was really sick. The biopsies revealed microscopic colitis. Now it's full-blown I-don't-yet-know-what. If it were me, I would definitely push for biopsies.
I wish you all the best. Hope you get an answer soon!
Chin up :)

Yeah I agree with Santos...my colon looked 'perfect' he said, but then biopsies showed I have colitis. Unfortunately this means another colonoscopy and the wonderful prep you can read about/relive in another current thread LOL

Ok..But if its colitis then should it not come in other tests like in Blood tests, ESR which indicates inflammation. If there are no sign of inflammation then how it can be colitis. Please suggest

My blood tests came back normal. All other tests came back normal as well. Only the biopsies showed the colitis. Meanwhile, I was having constant diarrhea (often bloody), pain, cramping, nausea, sudden urgency... pure hell.
Seriously, Appu ~ you owe it to yourself to get another c-oscopy done WITH biopsies. My GI was awesome enough to do it and that's the only way we knew what was wrong. The microscopic turned into ulcerative colitis, so we thought, because it's gotten so much worse... but now, it's changed (for the worse) and we don't know what the hell it is.
Be your own advocate!
Good luck, and know we're here for you.

Blood work isn't perfect and unfortunately doesn't always indicate a problem.

True dat, Vanessa. True dat.
It's such a PITA. "Blood work came back fine? Colonoscopy looks ok? You must be healthy." BS.

Recently I undergone 2 stool test. First one was CDSA from Genova, which shows everything normal except some parasite presence.

Second test was done loocally in India after 20 days from first one. Out of 3 samples, 1 sample indicated occult blood(I also have external haemorrhoids) adn 2 samples showed leukocytes presence.

I went to GP who just on the basis of second stool test told me that I have IBD but he said there is no need of colonoscopy.

Though I believe CDSA is more accurate and shows no prssence of lactoferrin.

Not believing him, I went to a reputed GI who orderes blood test, which came normal. He also saw my last years colonoscpy, endoscopy reports and said that it's IBS and not IBD.He did pay any importance to occult blood in 1 sample and to leckicyte presence.

This whole thing has created great suspicion in my maind that I might have IBD. I am confused what to do. Should go to another GI. Though already shown to 2 good GI and both areof same opinion. That its IBS.
Please advise as I am totally confused

Just my opinion...
I would go to another GI and push for a colonoscopy WITH biopsies. There's obviously something wrong and they can't find it.
Best of luck!

Again, I would agree, with Santos, and vshirey, biopsies for sure and blood work doesn't work for me and isn't fail-safe. All blood has been normal for me, but I was diagnosed with colitis after biosies only.

It took 10 years of testing for them to figure out I had Crohn's disease. IBS is BS. There is no such thing. If your symptoms are affecting your quality of life, keep going back until they give you a real diagnosis.

we have some members here who suffer from IBS, or IBS and crohns together and it is truly a real condition. true, in many cases crohns is misdiagnosed as IBS, but it is a disease of its own as well

When I became sick last year, the Dr took 2 stool samples thinking that it was a parasite b/c of the symptoms I was having. Maybe that's all it really is? My symptoms continued for a year & then they did the colonoscopy & found the CD.

I hope they figure something out for you soon!

I stand by my original statement. A diagnosis of IBS means they haven't figured out what's really wrong with you yet. It's a term that was coined in the '50s as a blanket diagnosis for anybody who had chronic untreatable diarrhea, constipation, and/or stomach pain. At the time it was coined, most doctors didn't understand diseases like Crohn's, colitis, diverticulitis, c diff, celiac disease, or even lactose intolerance. As a result, doctors started using IBS or spastic colon to describe non-surgical cases of all of these diseases, along with gastroenteritis, stress-related bowel motility issues, physical deformities and/or muscle control issues of the sphincter, and various basic food intolerances and/or dietary issues. Basically that's the diagnosis you'll get from any doc until you bitch enough for them to start running tests.

Nowadays they do a better job of checking for inflammation, and if there is any they try harder to find the problem rather than pass it off as IBS. If, however, you have a condition that doesn't cause inflammation, they'll gladly use that diagnosis and send you to the store for some Immodium or Tums. There's nothing inherently wrong with that if Immodium or Tums is enough to cure your ailments, but if you're talking to your doc about it, they probably aren't.
