I am about to stop taking 6mp. I'm 27 years old and have been on 50mg for the past 3-6 months.

I know that drinking alcohol is bad whilst on this medication so i have abstained completely. However, now that i will be coming off it, do i need to wait a period of time before i can drink? Or is it immediate?

Can't find the answer online anywhere and my doctor charges me $300AU to see him which isn't happening just to ask one question.

Thanks all

I have never heard of a problem drinking lightly while on this drug. Double check with your pharmacist. Pharmacist can answer precisely any questions related to medications and this should be free of charge.

May I ask why you are coming off of 6-mp?

Wait as long as you can. Alcohol really isn't good with Crohns. Keep it light. I've also heard that not drinking beer is helpful.
Of course being Australian the above is not really possible is it?
Good luck

Mate, with or without 6MP, or Infleximab, etc, keep a check on knocking the top off a frosty. I went undiagnosed for years, thought the blood was from lifting too many heavy things (I was a labourer). I'd pop out for for a few sherbs after work and get ICS. (Itchy Coit Syndrome). It was and is the alcohol being an inflammatory agent that was ulcerating me from the chocky starfish up- with eye watering irritation like fibreglass chips had been date inserted. General bloatation, etc, and feeling run down.
Nowadays, I keep a close check on it, the odd drink now and again, if I drink a couple over more than 3 days- ooh dear, the remorse. I know, it's a game changer- I love snapping caps and popping tops, but it's result is too higher price to pay. Believe me- I used to be a heavyweight champ p---tank.
Cheers- El Dacko.

I was a drinker more than thirty years ago. I am wondering if that could have made nyy Crohn's worse.

Possibly, Ron- several doctors told me alcohol is an inflammatory agent. Yes- I feel it if I drink on a regular basis or go out for more than one. Itchiness of the rectum- which is just ulceration from the extremity end. Bloating and discomfort and needing bowel movements frequently.
I limit myself - when my health is down it's a no-no, when I'm feeling ok I indulge in an afternoon beer or a wine with dinner. It makes me feel a little unhealthy but there is a balance to how you want to live your life. There are stretches where I don't drink for a couple of months and feel better.
Cheers K.
