Hello all. It's been awhile since I've been here. I started getting better and sort of wanted to forget about Crohn's for awhile. I think that's why regular members here seem to rotate a lot.

Anyway, here I am experiencing a new symptom. Anybody else get them (striae/stretch marks)? There are various causes including rapid weight gain, Cushing's syndrome or disease, pregnancy, stretching or athletic injury, topical or oral corticosteroid use.

I'd been trying to ignore them thinking it was just some skin irritation or rash. They're in my inner thigh. But I got busy researching this weekend and figured out this is what they are. I'll be calling my GI tomorrow and most likely setting an appointment.

Cushing's is the elephant in the room. It can be caused from overuse of Prednisone, which I was on almost all of last year. Cushing's syndrome goes away once you go off prednisone. But Cushing's disease is when the overproduction of cortisol has screwed up your outer adrenal gland and can cause tumors in the pituitary gland. Still actual Cushing's disease is very rare, about 10 in every million.

I gained about 30 pounds in 4-6 months after my surgery last November which could be the cause based on what I'm reading. But with all the Prednisone I took, I'm a little concerned about Cushing's as I have some of the other symptoms. Most of the other symptom's can be caused by other things, though, so I'll just have to go in and see about it.

It's good to see everyone again to those who are still here, and welcome to all the new members.

yup yup, your not alone!

i've had these before, but they went away.

and here i was thinking stretch marks only happen to pregnant women.... duh!

I had got strech marks when I gained weight fast too. They are still there, but faded a lot.

I have some cracking stretch marks on my belly from 3 kids which pale into insignificance against my re-section scar.

I also have them on my thighs, breasts, upper arms, from rapid weight loss when flaring and weight gain from steroids.
They do fade to silvery lines which are very faint.

I see them as character defining !!

Wow, well I feel better now. I'd never heard it discussed here before so didn't know how common it was. That calms my fears about Cushing's.

I have them on my belly, inner thighs and arms. My skin doesn't seem to take weight gain well. I had it happen when I was on tube feedings many years ago and after my last surgery.

Same - they fade to silvery marks now that I've lost the weight.

I hate prednisone :(
