Reading through my UGI w/ small bowel report.

What is the difference between stricture and stenosis please? Also, any input regarding info from the report below?

Are areas of "stenosis" narrowed like strictures?

(side note - biopsy from last week shows "negative for active inflammation" in duodenum. and "inflammatory atypia" for terminal ileum.)

Here are the findings of the UGI w/ small bowel report:
1. Descending duodenal stricture.
2. 3 separate areas of ileal stenosis.

Here is more detailed info from the report.
- There is moderate stricture of the mid to distal descending duodenum. Associated thickening of the descending duodenal mucosa.
- Short focal mild to moderate small bowel stenosis involving the ileum with the LEFT pelvis.
- Within the mid pelvis there is moderate ileal focal stenosis and associated mucosal thickening.
- There is moderate irregular stenosis involving the terminal ileum.

That's a good question. I always thought it was a matter of severity.
Strictures can easily lead to blockages where stenosis is an area that is narrower than normal.
I hope someone has a more accurate, and proper, definition.

Meredith, if you don't get anything concrete from us, when you talk to your doctor next, will you ask them then come back and educate us please?

I met with my doctor last Thursday. He confirmed that the terms stricture and stenosis are interchangeable.

Thanks for reporting back Meredith, it is appreciated :) I was going to feel bad if I was wrong as I've been using them interchangeably on this forum for a LONG time :D
