strictures and small bowel follow through
I’ve been on entocort since I’ve been diagnosed two years ago, I started on 3capsules a day and just a week ago I was able to go down to 2 capsules. My GI says that I currently have no inflammation, but there’s talk that I may have a stricture. I don’t know much about strictures, so for those of you who may have experience on the matter feel free to share (if you don’t mind). There’s a part of my small intestine that they can never get to during colonoscopies so they had me swallow a dummy pill so that if it passes through my intestines then they can give me the camera pill (it was HUGE!) I had an x-ray the day after and my GI is saying that they want me to do a small bowel follow through which means I’m going to have to drink that gross barium again. (Does anyone know what happens at a procedure like that? I’ve had an upper Gi series done once before is the SBFT similar? And how long does it take?) I guess the dummy pill didn’t go smoothly…I’m not sure if it’s because I ate a pretzel to get that pill down or because of the narrowness of my intestines. Anyway if they find a stricture they’re talking surgery which alarms me because I’ve heard people say that after those surgeries they get worse.
Last month I told my GI about my problems with constipation and needing to go to the bathroom but nothing will happen. And when I was able to go it was painful in my side but felt better afterwards for a short period of time.
Now I’m going to the bathroom fine but my stomach hurts during the day (sometimes) a bit not flare-up pain but like I have a lot of gas or something. When I was on the antibiotic amoxil last week for an infection my stomach has honestly not felt that good in a long time. So if I were to have a stricture wouldn’t it still cause me trouble while I was on amoxil instead of after its out of my system?
Right now, my crohn’s isn’t severe enough to stop me from doing what I normally do unless I’m in a flare up. The only thing I really need to watch is certain foods that might cause me trouble like popcorn. I’m really worried that if I do have a stricture and surgery is involved it might just complicate my life more than it already is.
