Hi guys
Not really been on here before much except to reply to a few things. Just wanted to vent about having a bit of a stupid day and just generally feeling confused.
I started getting stomach pains last night (I think it was the 7 Haribos I ate but who knows) so I was up half the night with a heat pad on my belly. So this morning I had work at 9.30 It was really hard getting up, I kept getting on/off pain but I'm living with my mum and she said I should try and go in if I possibly can so I got dressed and got in the car. So I get to work, I'm really hot, I feel nauseous, and in pain... so 30 minutes in I have to tell my boss that I think I should go home. So I get home, sleep until 1 and I feel better, pain is still there a bit but its bareable.
Its just annoying because now I feel like some kind of fraud for the rest of the day for having a day off work. I only work about 3 days a week as it is and I've had about 5 or 6 days off this summer due to ill health. My mum makes out that if I'd stayed at work I'd get better eventually.
How do you deal with this kind of thing? Am I being ridiculous or was I justified in leaving? Does it matter?
Would appreciate your advice
Lizzy

Hiya Lizzie

I can empathise, it's really hard to get to work when you're in pain and nauseous. I used to feel guilty all the time for staying off or going home early, but I don't now, my health comes first.
I think you did the right thing cos you rested and felt better for it later. Who knows how it could've panned out?
Do your employers know about your condition? If not, talk to them.
I've spent nearly a year trying to convince my bosses about how serious this disease can get left to it's own devices.
I've now won my battle and they've backed off. I could milk it but I have a conscience!
Try not to fret and offer to make the time up in the future.

Thanks Joan! That made me feel better. Its nice to have someone's opinion thats been through something similar!
They do know about my condition but I only recently told them and I also feel a bit like I should have told them when I went for the job rather than 4 months in... Maybe they wouldnt have employed me in the first place! My job is standing up all day and talking to the general public so its difficult if you don't feel great! Not the best job for a crohnnie...
Well done for winning your battle to convince your bosses!
Lizzy

Well Lizzie, Crohn's is covered under the Disability Discrimination Act now known as the Equality Act 2010, so no, they couldn't not employ you cos of Crohn's!
Just throw that at them if they start getting antsy!
My job (special school) is sooooooooo hard too, not an ideal job for a Crohnie neither!
Take care
xxx
