Almost two years ago, after Thanksgiving dinner I started vomiting profusely. I went to the emergency room and they ran countless tests for hours only to send me home with a diagnosis of GERD. For the next year and a half I had stomach pains but due to lack of health insurance and finances, trips to the doctor were few and far between. Early this year the pain was unbearable, landing me in the emergency room yet again.
I was then told to see a gastroenterologist and even though I didn't have the money to, I had no other choice. After visiting with the doctor I had to get a colonoscopy and when I came up, they told me I had to have surgery.
In less than two months I had been diagnosed with Crohn's and had a right hemicolectomy. I never really knew much about this disease before hand and even now, the information is limited. Prior to the diagnosis and surgery I had been trying to lose weight and now that I'm nearly six months out of surgery and on Remicade, I've gained nearly all of the weight I'd loss back. My diet primarily consists of saltine crackers and water because I constantly feel nauseous since surgery. I stick to my diet, exercise but the scale is going up instead of down. It seems like the news regarding this disease just gets worse and worse.
