Hi fellow sufferers,
I will not go into details but I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 1997. For a year or so, prior to the diagnosis I suffered with bouts of severe, agonizing pain. I felt that I would surely die.
For 6 months I was on cortisone. It just made things worse. I was now in agonizing pain and feeling very ill.
My doctor gave up on cortisone, and had a Right Hemicolectomy operation in 1997.
I would class my Chrons, since the operation, as mild although for a long time I have suffered with two major symptoms:
1. Unhappy Gut:
I call it this because my guts are hyperactive "hyper motile" and convulsive. This leads to pain, diarrhoea and in extreme cases twisted bowl and in my case obstruction.
Solution:
A specialist prescribed Sulpiride "Sulpor" also known as "Esperide" and "Eglonyl", 50mg once a day (initially twice a day). This mildly sedates bowel and is also a very mild anti-depressant.
The reason I am writing this post is because I forgot to take my daily dose and was reminded of how horrible Crohns can be.
2. Extreme Fatigue
Two years after my op, I started suffering from extreme fatigue. This is related to Crohns, my operation and possibly a family history of B-12 deficiency.
I found that weekly B-12 muscular injections of Vitamin B-12 solved this problem. I am prescribed Hydroxocobalamin and this works better than Cyanocobalamin.
I am also on mesalazine "ASACOL" 500mg suppositories (anti-inflammatory), the pills gave me terrible stomach cramps.
I now live a very full and productive life. I have not had to radically change my diet. Over the past few years have gone from 60Kg to 100Kg (6ft tall).
I hope the above helps.
All the best,
Shaun
