Found out today that I have inflammation in and around my resection, an area in the transverse colon and in the sigmoid colon. Doc said that there is no real point to taking out the resected mess b/c I am still left with the other areas. His suggestion is to take out the colon and connect small intestine to rectum! WHAT!!!???? He is contacting my GI doc and we all need to talk about other medications to see if we can get things under control.

I would LOVE your suggestions and words of wisdom about all of this!!!

THANK YOU!

Not sure I'd go for that...you'd be in the bathroom alot as the colon stores the feces till it needs to come out. You'd likely be better off with a bag. Talk to your GI doctor and see what they say. Sounds weird to me...but then again, I'm not a doctor :)

Good luck!

Could they be referring to an Ileal Pouch Anal Anastomosis? Basically they form a fecal "reservoir" out of some folds of the small bowel to take the place of the colon. Here's a Wiki article on it IPAA

I have no personal experience of this, though I'm sure there are people on here who have.

Good luck and welcome to the site!

Hi, please please triple check with your GI dr before agreeing to any surgery. Cedars Sinai in L.A. treated me with and NG tube and the steroid Salumedrol to decrease swelling and save me from surgery three times now, the last time was last May, 2009. Their GI/IBD department is very good about treating blockages, irritations, swellings, scar tissue areas ( I have two) with anything but surgery!.
So please discuss in depth with your GI dr and/or the hospital GI staff before deciding to go under the knife!.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Colette the Crohny - 24 years.....and counting.

P.S. Once out of the hospital I tapered off the steroids after a week and have not been on them since.
