Hello,

I was told by two doctors that I need to surgery to remove narrowed section in my small bowel. I got in with the surgeon mid january. I have been taking Humira for a year now but my scar tissue is so bad that my symptoms are not going away. I have had chronic back pain for almost two years (I have had injections in my SI joints, phys. therapy, got a trainer, taken all kinds of medicine and nothing helps!) they told me this is just another wonderful symptom of Crohn's and my inflammation and scarring.

My question for anyone out there is after you had surgery did all of your symptoms go away? My doctor says the surgery will make them go away including the back pain. I just want to know if there is hope my back will ever be normal again:frown:

Hi Ralagna5, sorry for the late reply. :)

Yes all my symptoms did go away after surgery including back pain. When tension is placed on the abdomen it tends to force the back muscles to work harder and same goes for when your back is weak your abdominal muscles have to work harder.

Since my surgery though I was told that I have osteoarthritis in my back so I'll likely have to deal with back pain for the rest of my life. Have you been tested for any arthritis yet? An x-ray showed it for me. I did take Humira for a short time though and it did help with the arthritis pain a lot. So hopefully with the resection and medication you'll be able to live a more pain free life. :)

Keep us posted on how you're doing! Again sorry for the late reply. :)

Hi there and welcome to the forum:)

Have you ever seen a rheumatologist for the back pain to rule out certain arthritis conditions that are common in IBD?

Can your narrowing/stricture be resolved thru baloon dilation, or a strictureplasty?

Some of my back pain during a flare bothers my back. I think its the inflamation from my small
bowel that gets me.

I hope you feel better soon.
Lauren
