Hey everyone,
Been a while since I have been on the forum but it has been far from smooth sailing. A quick history about me: diagnosed with Crohns a year ago now with stricture in the TI and another further up the small bowel. This has resulted in 3 small bowel obstructions in 6 months and after working hard gaining my dream job these episodes had to end as my Crohns was relatively controlled, just the strictures causing the issues.
I presented a couple of days ago with another obstruction and this finally prompted some action. A spot came available yesterday for surgery and there was no way I was going to say no.
So after a four hour laparoscopic surgery and on pain meds with a little pain ATM they removed a total of 80cm of small intestine in two separate locations, leaving me with 4.5m remaining. The scary thing being the stricture in my TI had that much scar tissue that a drinking straw couldn't have passed through it. This starts to make sense why I was always bloated, had a real loud grumbles and how I got obstructed so easily. I know surgery is never ideal but I already feel like I've got a second chance of a better life. I am not sure what meds I will be placed on after being on aza for the last year and pred while tapering off from hospital visits. Talk is Humera so will wait and see.
This is more a message to say surgery ain't that bad, I'm sitting up fine, tolerated water and jelly straight away. Just hope the next couple of days are as good, but I understand that it can get a bit tough but as I mentioned earlier I've now at least got my chance.
