Surgery prep question

Having my 2nd small bowel resection next week on Thursday (4/4/13).

I called the medical assistant to ask her about bowel prep for surgery and she just said, "nothing to eat or drink after midnight" for day before.

For my last resection, I did a bowel prep--also didn't eat anything day before but clear liquids.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a bowel prep or clear liquids supposed to aid in cleaner/safer surgery?

It's not always necessary and is another area of bowel surgery they can't all seem to agree on as to wether bowel prep is actually necessary or not, don't worry about it you'll be fine.

Macaroni and cheese is always my pre-procedure/pre-surgery last meal. It's my all-time FAVE!
