I had my ileum/some large intestine removed cause of my Crohn's and had a question to those who have gone through the same thing.
It was done around 2 months ago.
I have the train track looking scar going from my belly button down my belly. Even though I think it's a bad a$$ looking scar and a kind of reminder of what I've gone through and what I'll go through in my future it would still be nice to know how long does it take to change color back to regular skin color?
Right now it's still redish.
Thanks!

Mine took about a month.I have had 15surgeries and don't if any others have this but my scars are now tan color.I have it going about an 1/2inch above my belly button to my pelvic bone and then across my entire stomach.Cool at first not so much now.LOL

I have a 8in scar from a hysterectomy, and it is completely white now, but still looks like a map of Wigan!

I had surgery in December, and my scar is still very red and angry looking (healed fine, just very noticable). So, going on six months and still no change for me. Sigh.

I don't remember when mine started to fade - it's been 7 years since my last surgery. Maybe after a couple years?

Cocoa butter lotion really helps with healing scars, even old ones.

Good luck and hope you're feeling better from the surgery! - Amy

Can't quite remeber with Roo but I think it started to fade after about 12 months, much to her disgust! I thought she would want to use Bio Oil to help reduce it's appearance but no way, she felt she had earned it and that was true.

It is now white and like most scar tissue remains numb. BTW Roo's is a very thin line as they used a continuous suture.

Hey Zal,
I've had the exact same surgery as you have... exactly the same scar - all the way across my belly. Had to have that surgery 4 times unfortunately, but hopefully you won't. It took about 3 years for mine to turn to regular flesh color (or white). I too have the numbness still after 20 yrs, but everyone is different so don't worry.

My suggestion is Vitamin E oil for scars. Seems to fade them quicker.

Colette the crohny - 24 yrs and counting....

Also you could try aloe vera gel, this is what i used after my surgery and I must say it is very neat looking, I would say 6 months for it to heal and maybe even a year to get to the same colour as the rest of your body. x

I didn't start using until the scar was healed, but if it is still really red then I wouldn't worry about treating it, maybe just check with gp/consultant
