DS will get his first dose of humira Friday .
He is only 9.
He did well on remicade but developed hypersensivity
So his Gi is switching him to humira .

Has anyone started humira from remicade without a loading dose ??
Not sure if its different for little kids ???
He will only be on a pediatric dose of 20 mg EOW.

I had a loading dose when switching, I believe it was four 40mg needles to start then it started to drop down to standard dose. I was about 21 years old when I started Humira so I don't know how different the procedure is for children.

Does your GI want him to start without a loading dose? To me that seems unusual.

Hi,

I was on Remicade for 5 months and worked wonderfully (only felt the real benefit after 3 infusions), GI suggested I switch to Humira is its more 'Human' and less chance of developing antibodies.

My loading dose was 80mg (double shot) usually its 160mg if you havent had Remicade before.

However, the day after my Humira injection I had a really bad flare. Spoke to the GI, still wanted me to go ahead with next Humira. Had my next dose 2 weeks later but has made no difference and still currently going through a flare.

GI said that its got nothing to do with Humira, just that the flare has come at a bad time.. she is reluctant to put me on steroids and just expects me to wait it out
