Hi everybody,

Im knew to this but I just wanted to ask for some advice and other peoples experiences of Crohns Disease. So I was diagnosed 2 years ago when I ended up having emergency surgery to repair my bowel which had perforated. Since then I have been taking Azathioprine and had very few symptoms. However every now and then (about 4 times in the past year) I have been excessively bloated and in pain thats kept me up through the night and not been settled with painkillers. It felt like a serious cramping pain and no matter how I laid or sat there was no calming it down. Its also made me feel like I have serious heartburn, or like im really full. The last couple of times it has happened I have also been sick with it. Its only lasted a few days then I have been fine again. Tried to figure out a common factor in something I have eaten but can't figure anything out. Is this normal for crohns? In the way it comes and goes? Does anybody else have this? Thank you for your help! :)

I don't know but you could ask your doctor about pain management. I hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like what would happen to me every now and again. People here always talk about flares; I've never been sure I really get them other than those episodes which would usually only last a day.

I know you've said you've tried to track potential dietary causes... but maybe testing for food allergy/sensitivity, or doing an elimination diet like SCD or GAPS intro would be illuminating.
Sounds worth trying to figure out to me, not something to accept as the norm.

Also if it's happening frequently, it would probably be a good idea to go in to the doctor for labs to check for inflammation

Hi, it may or may not be CD related. It can happen to me to have a abdominal issue when I am in remission. It can be a meal or a specific food I have eaten for instance. If symptoms last just a couple of hours and do not occur again in the next days and week, I know its not CD related.
but the fact you mention symptoms last a few days is concerning though and I would definately talk about it with the dr. maybe your dr will want to run more tests to make sure you are fully in remission with your dosage of Aza or if something else is going on. It is important to be 100% in remission. Wishing you well.

Call your gi! This could be an early sign of a flare up coming. That is how my last flare started. The earlier you catch the flare the easier it will be to control it. They may want to run a few blood tests to see if your levels of white blood cells are elevated which is a sign of an infection in the body.
