Hi Everyone
I'm a 32 year old active, fit female.
I have had to episodes of extreme bleeding when having an urgent painless bowel movement. The blood was bright red. I went to the doctor the following day. I have some mild low stomach cramps and another bowel movement with a couple drops of blood. The doctor did blood work and it came back that my hemoglobin was low, (not low enough to be anemic) and my reactive c protein was fairly high. She referred me to a GI bit can't get in for 3 months. Since the first episode of a lot of blood, I have had one more, with most other bowel movements having a couple drops of blood. My doctor repeated the blood work a month later and same results. She did several stool tests, all were good. We are just waiting on the one to see if there is bleeding somewhere in me. The doctor has ruled out hemrodes. Besides almost daily blood in my bowel movements and some mild cramping I feel awesome. I have 3-4 bowel movements a day, usually one is urgent. I still have 2 months until I see the GI and getting very little info from my doctor as to what's going on. What is everyone's opinion on my symptoms?

Hi and welcome.
Are you waiting to see a specialist in Guelph?

Bright blood means bleeding somewhere in your colon. If things get really bad call your doctor again; maybe they can get you in sooner. For your GI visit start keeping a food and symptom journal. See if you can find a link between pain and blood.

I hope this gets figured out soon. Best wishes.

Ello,

You are having all the same symptoms I were having in the beginning stages. I went an entire year untreated and it was pure hell. I went from 210 to 160lbs in a matter of months. You should definitley push to be seen sooner because the longer you go untreated the worse it will get. Like the gent/ma'am above suggested start keeping a running log of food intake. You'll start to notice what cause s you pain immediately. For me, I stay away from red meat, pork, nuts, all fast food, MSG, caffeine, raw fruits and vegetables.. And when I do feel a flare up.. I turn to a liquid & soft food diet.

Best of luck

Yes I am seeing a doctor in Guelph - Dr. Chiba. I have been to my family doctor a fair bit over the past. I am definitely going to start keeping a food and symptom log. Having so much blood in my stool is just scary especially when I can't see a specialist for a while. Thanks for your replies everyone

The fact you exercise and eat well does not make you exempt from IBD. Erratic and odd inflammatory markers are common if the the disease is caught early, you may well have gotten lucky and it decided to play it's hand before you got to a point where you're in intense pain. The best test is a colonoscopy but that does sound like what a clinician would call "mild" IBD - your symptoms are a bit too general to say if it's UC or CD yet..

I'm passing mucus on and off..the past couple of days have been good - no blood, mucus or stomach pains. My family dr is leaning towards mild/early stages of crohns or colitis based on symptoms/tests so far. She said GI will most likely do colonosopy.

The mucus would indicate something other than hemorrhoids, which is why I asked. I certainly don't wish a diagnosis of Crohn's or UC on you, but at least if you have a diagnosis, you can start treatment. Hugs to you!!!

The mucousy stool means you absolutely need a colonosocopy. Excessive mucous in stools is a strong sign of inflammation in the GI tract.

Thanks...there hasn't been a lot of mucus. But than again who am I to say what is a lot. Just got results from my third set of blood work today and hemoglobin still low and reactive C protein is high. Dr was able to get me in sooner. I got next month now. I'm anxious/nervous to find out what's wrong with me
