FDA approves MyocondaR IND for MAP in Crohn's Disease

http://www.giacondalimited.com/pdfs/20070424 ASX Announcemnt Myoconda IND approved.pdf

I hope this means they can now know that this bug caused crohn's and they can cure it!!!!

I read that MAP survives pasteurzation and can only be killed by boiling milk. It is also infecting water and beef.... So maybe a good practice for all of us with Crohn's, is to boil our milk (and prepare all our dairy from it at home), only use bottled water, and cook thoroughly our meat.

cooking meat thoroughly should be done anyway, but i think boiling milk and only using bottled water is going a little too far.

I know where my chrons has come from, it runs in our family.

I think there is a definite connection for me with milk and Crohn's activity. I love milk and could drink 5 glasses a day, easily.

And I am agreeing that things are now slipping through the food chain. Veges are contaminated with some heavy-hitters, meats have so many bacterias and antibiotics. Water, I quit worrying about because I am on a well AND have a very expensive water treatment system (it came with the house when we bought it). And milk.

This makes antibacterials, antifungals, antioxidants, and probiotics important to add into our diets.

Next time I go to the GI doc, I am going to see if I can get a test to find if I am MAP positive -- has anyone had that kind of test?

I like Milk also, It seems to almost constipate me at times. What type of effect does it have on you

I'll also ask my GI about the blood test.

As for Crohn's running in the family, that's true, Crohn's has a genetic factor, but something has to trigger it. Maybe it's MAP, and if it's so, we should avoid it's sources as much as possible...

And since a pharmaceutical company is investing money in such a drug, and the FDA approved, there should be some strong eveidence that MAP can cause some cases of Crohn's...

As for drinking milk, I never drink it because it causes me lots fo discomfort. The only dairy product I eat regularly is yoghurt

I'm only one in my family (that we are aware of) That has it. My grandfather ran a dairy farm, I had to milk cows but I don't think that had anything to do with it

Milk does not affect me in any negative way. It's just my happy liquid. Hate coffee, tolerate tea, don't much like water, not even really like sodas. Do love root beer, though. But milk, mmmmmm. Too bad it's not good for me.
