I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you!

I was diagnosed less than two weeks ago with Crohn's, and I've felt so overwhelmed because of it. Thankfully, I stumbled on this site. It is so good to hear about others dealing with this disease. I know that everyone's symptoms are different, but I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I'm also glad to know that it is normal to feel some anger and depression towards this disease.

This forum also has so many helpful things to read for someone who is confused about a new diagnosis.

So again- thanks to everyone in this forum!

Hi and welcome to the forum! :D

May I ask what your symptoms are and what your current treatment is?

My symptoms..... of course the big D about 8 or 9 times a day. I also have awful abdominal pain. Sometimes it literally doubles me over. I guess those are the two big symptoms.

My treatment- 40 mg Prednisone and 750 mg Metronidazole. The prednisone tapers so I will be done in about a month.

Welcome,
This is a great place to relate. Have you seen a GI for this or was an emperic therapy started by your md? Depending on the severity of your symptoms, there is a variety of treatment options available.- hugs-

Actually, this was prescribed by my surgeon. The whole thing started because my doctors thought I needed my gallbladder removed. One thing led to another and the surgeon who removed my gallbladder did my colonoscopy. After consulting with a GI (who I do not know) my surgeon had the last word.

I've considered seeing a GI, but I'm being stubborn. I'm just so busy and sick of going to the doctor. We'll see what my follow up with my surgeon consists of, and then move from there I guess.

How long have you been on the Pred, are you still getting those symptoms whilst on this? You definetly need to be seeing a doc who specialises in this area - a GI - so you can get the proper monitoring and treatment.

I've only been on the pred. for a week. The symptoms were better initially, but I've had a couple bad days since.

I guess maybe I don't know how serious this is. I will look into seeing a GI. Thanks!

Just an update- I talked to my mother tonight. Since I'm still on their insurance, they have the final say. (They want me to just be healthy, but I don't like to be a burden financially.) I moved my follow-up with my surgeon to next week, and then I'll ask him to refer me to a GI (I've heard you need a referral for most GI's.) Then I'll move forward from there. One a side note- I hate prednisone!

Hi Nikki and welcome!

I can't agree with the others more. You absolutely need to be under the care of a GI. It is SO IMPORTANT. You're going to need to go on additional medications as the prednisone tapers down so the sooner you can be seen by a GI, the better.

We're here for you anytime you need us. All my best to you!
