So being I'm a CPA I do peoples taxes, and various amounts of endless bookkeeping. Since i've been a CPA, i've seen many and I mean MANY 1099 forms from unemployed people. I just keep seeing them as each month passes by. I'm thankful I have the job I do and that I'm kept busy by many workplaces, and worksource agencies. Because it's not a real promising job market. These politicians and news channels, and other sources of news want to give you the notion that this economy is "growing" and it's not.

I'd hate to see what the unemployment numbers are going to be like after the first month of the new year. Of course, The Messiah is going to count these temporary holiday positions as figures to shed off the current 9.8% (which I think don't count) but if they counted those who are no longer collecting unemployment and have exhausted their benefits it would be well double that amount.

It still worries me to see all these 1099 forms from unemployment offices and worksource offices from many people who I also personally know who are going through these tough times trying to find work.

Unemployment figures are seasonally adjusted, therefore temporary holiday positions do not affect the numbers.

Corporate cash and profits are at extremely high levels given the current unemployment situation. This means that firms are likely looking for any positive signs in the labor market before they start hiring like crazy.

In fact, today's unemployment claims came in and there were less than 400,000 for the first time in more than 2 and a half years.

Unemployment is also a very regional thing. You may happen to live in an area where it is super high like where I live (near Detroit) but this doesn't speak for the entire United States.

Yeah we're pretty bad at around 9 percent here in WA state. It's just when you keep hearing from people you know who are either losing their jobs, getting their hours cut it doesn't sound promising. When I began to see more 1099's than W-2's it makes me think about if I'll have a job in the next coming weeks. We layed off two CPA's already. with my huge hospital bill coming in it doesn't make it any easier. Healthcare costs, gas is going up, everyone is in a bind and afraid to spend.
