Hey there guys, first off I wanna say that I am so thankful for finding all of you lovely people on this forum. You guys shed light to may of my questions. My question today is this: I was newly DX just a little over a week and have been on 50mg of Pred and 75mg of Imuran for the past week. Now I am wondering, my guts feel much better now and they are not tender to the touch like before (Thanks to the Pred) but how long does it take for my BM to become normal? or will it? Yesterday I experienced the Mucus like BM for the first time. Before then it was just kinda pasty. Now it seems as though my BM is solidifying but it is small skinny forms which looks like it has undigested food in it. Will this get better as time goes on and will I ever have normal BM again? I also hear a lot about what to eat. Some say High fibre and some resources say low fibre. What is it? Can you help?

Thanks so much! Heart all your guts!

Usually you won't experience solid poos until it heals completely on the inside. That usually takes a couple months (about 2 or 3 for me on Pred)

Katiesue is right, I haven't had a solid bm but I have had two resections. Prednisone did help firm it up alot. It all depends on what you are eating. High fiber will go thru you before you can say bm lol. My non risky foods are toast (white or light rye) banana's and always have an Ensure in my fridge so I dont binge eat or eat risky foods. Red meat is chewy, best to avoid if you are in a flare. I never eat high fiber because if I do.... I may as well sit on the throne all day. You also lose alot of nutrients that way. If you have strictures, being constipated or slowed bm are not a good idea. Probiotics do help, yoghurt helps too.
