The Vicissitudes of Crohn’s illustration

A digital illustration portraying a personal experience of Crohn’s disease is the overall winner of the Wellcome Image Awards 2017.
‘Stickman – The Vicissitudes of Crohn’s (Resolution)’ is a striking computer-generated image which conveys the physical and emotional experience of Crohn’s disease, a chronic condition caused by inflammation of the digestive system.
It is part of a series incorporating Stickman, the alter ego of illustrator Spooky Pooka (Oliver Burston), who has the disease.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I particularly like what I assume is the representation of abdominal pain, seeming to radiate through and out of the body. Deeply rooted, difficult to shift, becoming part of you.

The other winning images are also amazing! Fascinating visualisation of information flow on the Twitter network.

I had a look for more of the artist's work (Spooky Pooka) and found some more in the collection. It's here under "Stickman- The Vicissitudes of Crohn's" - https://www.behance.net/spookypooka You can even give it a like.

Wow, this is stunning. I viewed the entire series on the artist's Behance and ended up in tears because I identified with it so strongly!

I keep coming back to this. I have a real taste for the macabre and would have loved this image anyway, but knowing what it symbolises just makes me love it more. I wonder if prints will go on sale?

Well done, my first emotion towards the picture was- haunting- then I thought yep that describes this disease for a lot of different reasons!
