Im not even sure if this is CD related but every horrible thing that goes on with my sweet husand is always CD related. So heres the deal:

Three days ago, his throat was sore and red. Tonsils were swollen and had white spots on the. His glnds were also swollen but not painfull. He has a runny nose and headcold type head ache. We were thinking strep. It is going around. Well, that night, he ate grilled cheese an it made him vomit. The next morning, he woke up andhad littlw white spots on the inside of his cheeks up near the gumline. And his tongue was yellowish and raw feeling. And theres a yelloishh spot just behind his uvula. He hasnt had a fever and other than the sore throat he feels fine. He brushed hismouth gently and rinsed well and the spots on his cheeks were gona and so were the ones on his tonsils. Most of the icky stuff on his tongue went away too except a little in the front an sides. His tonsils are still red but not as swollen.

Now a little background. My husband has two vices: cigarettes and coffee. And since the pred treatments took his teeth, this is the first time in over a year he brushed his mouth. He would brush his dentures and rinse his mouth with regular water. So mabye the tongue thing could be plauge? Also, he hasnt lost any weight, hes still gaining, and hes on no medicine at all. He hasnt been running a fever or had anyother signs of illness. Could the white spots be CD related?

His GP wont be available till the 15th of Oct. Amd his crappy GI wont calle back. So really, yalls all I got. I hope yall have some idea.

Sounds like what I used to get a lot before I finally had my tonsils removed. By your concern though I'm assuming this doesn't happen often. I was told I had strep, tonsillitis, and was told that I was just sick. No one ever suggested Crohn's as a possibility.

Certain medications can cause you to easily get sick though with illnesses like strep or can even cause thrush. A swab to find out for sure would be ideal. For now what you can do is keep track of it by writing down the date and all the symptoms and even take a picture of the back of his throat. I did that eventually because it always looked better by the time I saw the doctor to the point where a lot of times they didn't even bother to swab it and just let it run its course.

For the pain though and to help it heal faster he can do salt rinses/gargle with salt water. Tastes gross and burns a bit but for me it always helped my throat heal faster.

Hey Jennifer. Thanks for the reply. I looked and looked online but all it says is only people with compromised immunity or people on antibiotics gets thrush which hes is'nt immunosuppresed or on any antibiotics. This strep thing has been going around for a few weeks now. My husband generally stays away from family members who are sick but he didnt this time. I think the strep is causing the thrush because his strep symptoms are getting better and I just checked his mouth and all the white spots on his cheeks are gone. And he said the only pain hes having is the tip of his tongue. Idk. If it gets worse or he starts running a fever Im taking him to the Er.

If he's still on Prednisone and/or Entocort then his immune system is being suppressed.

"Corticosteroids also suppress your immune system, which can help control conditions in which your immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues." http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/steroids/HQ01431

"ENTOCORT EC weakens your immune system. Taking medicines that weaken your immune system makes you more likely to get infections." http://www.rxlist.com/entocort-drug/medication-guide.htm

"Oral thrush and other Candida infections can occur when your immune system is weakened by disease or drugs such as prednisone, or when antibiotics disturb the natural balance of microorganisms in your body." http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/oral-thrush/DS00408/DSECTION=causes

I was going by your signature, it mentions both steroids. Oh ha! Nevermind. :p I see I read it wrong. Those were past meds and presently he's not taking any. I'll post the info anyway. Since he's still recovering and gaining weight from the mass weight loss he had before I wouldn't be surprised if his immune system is still low. I agree that if things get worse then go to the ER but hopefully he gets better and hopefully you wont get sick too. Still a good idea to keep track of this in case it continues or happens again. :)

Thanks Jennifer. Really it could be a few things causing it. His recovery from this last big flare, and up till about 2-3 weeks ago he was passing blood with every BM (around 10x a day) and I have aniemia and Ill get a mild case of thrush when my levels get low, or his strep. He gave the strep to his mom. I havent had strep since I had my tonsils removed in the 80's. I think Im immune to it. Haha Hopefully anyway.
