Time of day to take Imuran

I start tomorrow. Does it help to take it before bed or are the side effects around the clock no matter what? I'm starting at 50mg.

I am on imuran...but I'm on 200mg per day. So I'm not going to be of much help sadly. I take 1 50mg tablet 4 times a day. I do find that my nights and mornings are the roughest out of the day with the middle of the day when I feel my best. Usually take first dose around 8 or 9 and I'm pretty good by lunch.

I think it's normal to only have side-effects (brainfog, etc) during the first week. After that I stopped having anything negative from Imuran, and I've never noticed anything regarding time of day.

The brainfog was the only one I didn't mind. Made things a little more entertaining. I still have a little nausea though. Esp. In the mornings.

I was in school so it wasn't particularly helpful for me. :( For the nausea: can you take an anti-emetic (like ranitidine/zantac) beforehand? That's what I used to do with some of the antibiotics I had to be on since they caused such awful nausea.

Anti nausea meds anger me because they never work. Remind me of going to the hospital and them just treating symptoms like they would with anyone else and not trying to treat my disease. Nausea isn't bad. And I'm used to it.

Ughhhh, that's my biggest pet peeve, too. Symptom control isn't going to solve things, just mask them. Sorry about the nausea, though -- I know that's rough at times.

I was on 150 mg/day up until my resection almost 4 weeks ago. I split the dose 75 mg with breakfast and 75 mg with the evening meal.

GI suggested taking at night with gravol if necessary lessens nausea, does anyone have raised blood pressure and rapid heart beat from Imuran??

That might just be a symptom during the first week -- I experienced something like that too. If it persists for longer than that, mention it to your doctor. :( But I think you'll be okay!

I'm on 200 mg/day (male 165 lbs). I've been on it for about 6 years, not always this high of a dose, but pretty close.

I used to take the full dose before bed every night. My GI claims it doesn't matter as its effectiveness is about building up long term concentrations in the body - not about an immediate response to the latest dose.

About a year ago I switched to taking half right before bed, half in the morning with breakfast. That seems to have helped with the fatigue a bit, but that's anecdotal - my overall condition might have improved with the increase in dosage that prompted me to make the change.

Good luck!

I take 125 mg at the moment. Varying doses and checking bloodlevels especially when I started back in 2000 or 2001, but never had any significant problems. Some minor nausea at first but nothing special. I take it first thing in the morning. It takes time to start doing anything to you if you don't get adverse reactions.

is it ok to take all 3 imuran 50mgs each together ?

It probably is. It also depends on how your doctor told you to take it. For me he told me 4 times a day. I am no longer on imuran though. It tanked my immune system and my white bloodcell count was at a .8 and I got c-diff. That was fun. I will be starting humira in the next week or two.

Tired... All the time so far. It helps knock off the edge with the alertness of prednisone. So far that is all the experience of side effects we have experienced, but have only been on it for a few weeks. Some have complained of hair loss.
