Tired

My son started 6mp 12 days ago and has been feeling exhausted/tired for the past 5-6 days. No other s/e have appeared. His wbc looks good and he is a little anemic, but taking iron. For all those with experience, is the recent tiredness a side effect of 6mp?

With Imuran/6mp it's pretty common to experience some tiredness/brainfog and even nausea the first week or so, but it should subside after that. If it persists, contact his doctor.

I felt consistently awful on 6mp and got frequent infections. It's not uncommon to feel lousy. If it doesn't subside maybe a dose change can be made.

I agree that tiredness can be a problem on 6-MP. It's good that the doc is keeping an eye on his blood counts as tiredness would be a symptom of low RBC. As the others said this symptom often wears off in a few weeks.

Of course it can also be a symptom of CD so if his other symptoms worsen or he gets extremely fatigued to the point he's unable to function then I would call his GI.

If your son is a child/young adult I invite you to also consider posting on the Parents of Kids w/IBD sub-forum. It's very active and you can compare notes with other parents. Sometimes side effects and treatment effects/doses/options are different for kids/teens than they are for adults.
