to 6mp or not to 6mp

Hey gang,
Anyone on here regret going on 6mp? My dr said that's our next step since tapering Entocort twice has left me back where I started. I'm debating: is it better to go on 6mp with all it entails or just let the inflamation and symptoms be? Which is worse long term? Also what do you guys take for the D on a daily basis that actually works? Since being of entocort, I'm a wreck! Laughably, I was so hungry yesterday I decided to go to a buffet because all foods sounded awesome. Well, you all can imagine how that worked out! :/ still paying for it today. Lol

I never had any issues while on 6MP.....worked for a while until I got the fistulas....stayed on it though, then went on Remicade.....went off the 6mp over a year ago, still on REmicade with nothing else right now.....

I just started 6mp 4 wks ago. I also have tried tapering off entocort many times. I take the 6mp with remicade. I was worried at first to take it but I know I needed to get off the entocort and couldnt take the flaring.

Good Luck deciding!

I have to go to the bathroom less often and its more solid when I take 6MP and I've never had any problems with taking it. I was also prescribed Lomotil for frequency (more hardcore than Imodium).

I've been taking 6MP now since July, and despite having elevated ALT's (dose was reduced for this to come down), it has been by far the best drug that I've taken to date. BM's as Crabby has said, have become more formed and less frequent. Just make sure that you have you're regular blood tests that should detect any impending problems.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

I'm taking 6mp right now 100mg/day. I started at 50mg/day, but wasn't enough. I noticed a difference about after a month being on it, but due to the severity of my crohns i just had surgery done Saturday. Should be getting out of hospital today. Not sure if I am continuing the 6mp when I get out. Will still be on Prednisone, but will taper. Hope the best for you all!

It really isn't all that bad. Lots of people do great on it.

I could not take it. I've tried 6MP and Imuran, but both made my liver counts go up and with 6MP I ended up with pancreatitis.

I hope it works out for you! Don't worry about it too much. I hope you do great on it!

I have taken it. It seemed to work pretty well. The only side effect I had was that it caused my gums to swell, bleed and hurt. I have tapered off of it fo rthe second time. I tapered once to see if that was it, stayed off for a few months then went back on. Right back to the gum disease - which definately can be a side effect. I decided that I do not want to take it because of that, but it really helped me!

Feeling Sick

I just had surgery over a week ago. They removed some of my small/large intestine (Illum Cecum) and my appendix; i also had an abscess. Right now I am taking 6MP 100mg/day and 40 mg of Prednisone a day. Does anyone else feel sick from the medicine. I don't know if its because of my surgery recovery or the meds, but I feel exhausted all day, then here and there i feel nasuea (like im gonna throwup). It comes and goes.

On another note, I had some blood work done and the doc told me i had really low testosterone, could that be the result of my tiredness?

If anyone knows anything please let me know, because im sick of feeling sick...

Thanks
