So as most of you know my story has changed. I went from severe flare to mild and supposedly not flaring now. I had horrible D, that stopped by adding probiotics to my diet. Well, I think the probiotics cause constipation. So I stopped and the D came back, so I tried every other day...and the constipation came back. I ended up in the ER where they did a CT scan to check for obstruction and it came back negitive. So they sent me home with GoLytely, and mag citrate. About 12 hours after the mag citrate was down, I finally went. Three hours on the toilet and serious pain, lots of cramping and blood....I finally emptied. Well....here it is three days later and I have no activity in my bowels again. What is going on?? So I called GI again and he wants me to take miralax three times a day, and on third day do an enema!! WTF....r u serious....does this sound right?? There is NO reason I should be having this problem. What do you think?? I know that too much lax is bad news....I dont need to flare again because of the lax?? Any suggestion or experience would really be helpful. Thanks or listening....Im truely frustrated!!

Wow, that sounds like a lot but long term I wouldn't think that would be a good idea. I asm assuming you are narrowing or have scar tissue and that backs it up more? When was the last scope you had done? There are natural sources, you have to see what works.

As you know, too much laxative is very bad for your bowels in the long run.

Often constipation is just caused by simple dehydration. If you aim to drink 2 litres of pure filtered water per day every day, you will soon things moving along, so to speak.

You may also want to look at your diet. Things like red meat, cheese, white bread, will all contribute to constipation.

Many people with C & UC find that ripe papaya, ripe paw paw and ripe bananas are very soothing to the bowels. All these things will help you to poo.

If you can tolerate them, chia seed gel taken in water will help to bind things inside up and stop D.

I am not saying don’t take laxative from the doctor but do be careful not to over use the stuff otherwise your bowels will become lazy and things will get worse overtime. I am speaking from experience.

I take milk of magnesia a lot. I know that's not ideal, but it is better than regular stimulant-containing laxatives. And it always does the trick. Fruit and fruit juices stopped working years ago, as did fiber supplements. Even stool softeners don't help.

Right now, I seem to be in a remission, so it's no D and all C. I can never find a balance. Probiotics used to help me go, but now they seem to stop me up. I really wish there were something else besides milk of mag, but that's the only OTC treatment that works for me. Anyone with advice, I'd like to hear it.
