Hi all,

This is just thinking out loud, but my naturopath asked me some questions and it came back to my mind::ywow:

Prior to my first breakout of symptoms, I was exposed to formaldehyde and other toxins (2.5 months before first and sudden symptoms; toxins were measured but within the “allowed“ range, other students complained about fatigue, headache, nausea, someone had a atopic dermatitis flare-up after a few weeks of exposure).
Actually, my flare slowly got better after that year was over (whole year of ongoing exposure though, horrible time), so felt medium-okay 1.5 years later I would say (kind of remission, wasn't diagnosed back then).

Just coincidence? Any similar experience?

I can't say that I have had similar experience. There might be some here whi have has similar experience though.

I have been reading up a lot on chronic illness and their causes( triggers). A lot of people who become sick after being exposed to toxins ( chemicals, Mold, etc..) are people who have a genetic predisposition. Meaning you have a genetic mutation where your body is not able to detoxify toxins out of your body like a healthy person does. I have been sick for 13 years with all sorts of stuff, one thing right after another it seems. I went to see a doctor who ran blood work on me and found that I have a genetic component( about 20% of the population has this genetic variance) where my body is not able to detox stuff like it should. The result is chronic illness. So yes, your being exposed to that chemical could have definitely caused you to get sick chronically. Toxic Mold exposure is also a Huge contributing factor when it comes to chronic illness. Mold is nasty and can affect certain individuals with this genetic variance. Mold also can be hidden and not openly apparent ( can be hidden in walls or even in air duct vents) and can cause a host of issues for some.

Thank you so much Ihurt! Very interesting, really makes sense! I agree on that genetic predisposition, also according to latest research on Crohn's. No idea if something else would have led to the breakout of symptoms later, if I haven't been exposed to these toxins back than. Sad thing is: Even if I knew for certain that these toxins could have been the trigger, there is no solution to get into remission based on that finding or understanding. :-(
