Anybody else end up in agony if they get gas stuck in their system?

I am guessing it was a gas bubble, this morning I got really bad pain just above the belly button and to the right. Hurt to stand straight, hurt to sit. I started to freak out thinking I may have to go to the ER. I laid down for a bit and I guess that popped the bubble, cause I passed gas and felt 100% better. I am wondering if my intestines are just that irritated and it caused the pain? I am going to mention it to my doc when I see him next week

Oh boy yeah. Gas has laid me low. Such a simple thing but packs a big punch. I've been dealing with that lately myself except mine has moved on to releasing itself constantly. Ewww

Oh, man! I can physically feel the pain and discomfort you are describing. I know it all too well some days. it's so crazy too because I really start to panic and feel like death for a moment but once the gas bubble pops and I realize that was all it was, it makes me feel kinda silly and annoyed at the same time :ybatty: That trapped gas also makes me feel so nauseous (but it could be the anxiety from the whole experience that does it) at the same time from all of the discomfort. I keep a lot of ginger tea packets in my desk at work and in my cabinets at home.

When I have trapped gas, I make sure I'm alone, then I lay on our blue exercise ball. I try to relax as I roll around with my tummy on the ball and my hands on the floor, bottom up and whatdoyaknow...works everytime.

Crohn'sChicago, could you tell me how ginger tea helps? I need to start trying some of these things.

YES! Sitting here in agony now actually... except I get a host of other symptoms with it. I get so much air built up I can't even lie down flat, which is why it is 12:27 am here and I am just sitting up in bed really REALLy uncomfortable. It also causes me really scary chest pains behind my diagphragm that feel like I'm having a heart attack.

Trapped gas is the worst! Try massaging your abdomen and doing strange yoga like movements on your bed. You never know what position might facilitate movement.

Tea should get things moving and ease the pain and possibly a pill like Gas-X may help.

Like a bunch of those above, there are some things that I have found assist. First of all, don't be afraid to let 'er rip. Secondly, massaging gently can help a little. Thirdly, find a position that helps it move. If I am in bed, resting on my knees and elbows with my butt in the air helps. Lying on my left side also seems to assist (I think the weight of bowel pressing sort of helps push things along). Fourth, a warm bath. Fifth, increase fluid intake to help bowel contents move along and keep things from backing up.

Make sure that you mention it to your doctor - you could have structural reasons why gas is getting trapped. If so, you may need other options.

Ginger is a known cure for gas, indigestion and nausea. It helps break up the gas bubbles in your system. Also peppermint is a good source. You can make tea out of both of them. You can also simply chew on a slice of fresh ginger. For me I find drinking ginger to be a more fast-acting solution compared to other options.
