O.K. so most of you know how my daughters love to taunt me with their desire for international mission work in developing nations. All of O's (my ibder) travel has been nixed due to the threat of TB (she is on Remicade) and the need for the yellow fever vaccine (live).

This time it is my oldest non ibder is going to Ghana. O.K. put aside the advice to let the embassy know your travel plans and the warnings about chieftancy disputes...Ghana is apparently a hotbed of TB. The infectious disease doc knows about O and told my oldest that upon return she needs to get the TB test and if latent start treatment so as not to develop full blown TB and infect her sister. So believe me the first cough off the plane and that girl is being checking into a hotel!

But then comes the yellow fever vaccine. I know live vaccines aren't recommended for immune suppressed people but my daughter said doc said "something" about not for family living in close quarters with I.S. people either. Great! We are always on top of each other. What if she gets the live Yellow Fever vaccine and comes home to O. What can happen really? Guess I should ask the doc but it is 10 p.m. and what does she know compared to you all anyway;) One would think my college daughter would ask these questions but why when you have a mother who will?

Wine anyone?

Because she's away at school, can she have the vaccine when she knows she won't be coming home for a while? I'd be a bit concerned about it too.

No that would be too simple. It has to be within the time frame that she is home. I suppose I could kick her out:lol:

Hey cic...

I just received the yellow fever vaccine. Do I need to avoid contact with my immunocompromised family member?

No. There is no evidence that people who receive yellow fever vaccine shed the vaccine virus. Therefore, there is no need to avoid people whose immune systems do not work well.
