So in a few weeks my family and I are taking a week long trip to Disney World! I am so excited and scared to death. I am currently in remission but plan on taking an emergency pack in my backpack on the plane with all the essentials... you know wipes, undies, pants, pads just incase.

Has anyone else flown and do you have any suggestions on things that made the trip much easier... other than some anxiety meds? lol

I haven't flown for a couple years, but the last time I was on a plane, there was a LOT of turbulence and it made me feel very motion-sick. I happened to have some Zofran in my purse and that was a lifesaver! (I guess for awhile my face was pure white and I looked awful, as both my parents handed me their puke bags - the Zofran helped me keep it together though and not barf.) So I'd say pack some anti-nausea meds if you have any, just in case of something like that happening.

I'd also say pack some tummy-safe snacks, in case you can't find acceptable food in the airport and/or at Disney. Oh, and drink a lot of water before your flight if you can, as flying can be very dehydrating. Maybe pack something like Airborne as well because germs can really circulate through a plane. Other than that, just plan whatever you can ahead of time - look at menus online for various restaurants in the park or near your hotel so that you'll know what places are okay for you to eat at, and if worse comes to worse it might not be a bad idea to know where the closest hospital is (and if it takes your insurance, etc). Planning for all the "what ifs" always makes me feel better so hopefully that'll help you feel less anxious too. Other than that, comfy walking shoes and some sunblock and you should be good to go! Good luck and have fun! :)

Thanks you guys! I really hope my doctor doesn't think I am nuts but I just called and left a message asking if I could get a script for tramadol and phenagryn just incase I get down there and things go badly for me. I live in OK and have a doctors appointment the week after I get back anyway so if things do go bad that's covered... I just don't want to get sick out of state and have to go to some doctor who doesn't know me and my issues and thinks I just trying to get drugs...

I do still have some Zofran and that is some amazing stuff by the way!

Loperamide ??? (Lomatil in the U.S. I think)

This is Imodium in the US and we always pack in our travel case for emergencies. GI has okay'd it in our case for emergency use as in we are traveling and sitting in airplane/car for extended time and the big "D" hits.
Have fun! I'm jealous.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Lomotil and Imodium are different. I know Imodium is available over-the-counter but I believe Lomotil is prescription-only. My GI says that Lomotil is basically like prescription-strength Imodium, so I presume the two are similar but that Lomotil is stronger. For what it's worth, Imodium doesn't really do anything for me but Lomotil works pretty well.

MissBG, Zofran is definitely amazing stuff! And no, you definitely don't want to have to go to an unknown doctor in a different state if you can avoid it. When I was a kid, my mom picked up a virus or something on our way to Disney, and I remember she had to go to a very skeezy walk-in clinic. It was dirty and I could hear someone vomiting very loudly in the next room! Not that all walk-in clinics are like that, but ick! You definitely want to avoid that kind of situation if you can. Good luck with the tramadol and phenergan!

Sorry for any confusion Lopermide is Imodium, Cat is correct Lomotil is different and Lomotil is Rx. Imodium can be purchased OTC.

Yay!!!! My doctor is calling in a new prescription for me so that's one less thing to worry about!

I traveled around the world a few weeks alone to the dismay of my family. I don't think anyone thought it was a great idea. I was sick about half the time and trucked through it the best way possible. Family was worried I'd end up back in emergency due to kidney stones (complication of Crohn's).

My outlook... I was sick of being in hospital and wanted to do what I wanted to do.. I'm stubborn =).

Best advice. Get lots of rest. Don't overdue it (my mistake). Know your limits (I pushed myself a lot... another mistake). Try to watch what you eat if there are trigger foods. I had fun even though some days were Flare Up days and I felt sick. Lucky for me, I stayed at hotels, traveled solo, and thus my room was private.

Travel realizing you can't escape the disease but you are entitled to having fun. Enjoy yourself the best way possible.

Pack meds, keep Dr.'s numbers handy, and go with the flow.

Thankfully its not going to be a terribly long flight so no worries about plane food and my mom has packed enough snacks to last us the whole week I think. :)
