Tip for making Humira Shot not hurt as much

Because my son is so slim, the veins on his legs are very visable. After we ice his leg, however, you can't see any...so in the past when he gets the shot, we've hit a vein and its been very painful (even with long icing). I thought it was just the medicine burning. The last 3 injections, I have him stand up and with a sharpie I mark with a dot the veins in the area we are going to do the shot. Then we ice until his leg feels numbish.(5-7 min) My husband then knows where to place the pen and delivers the shot. Brian has said it doesn't hurt anymore. Not even the burn! I think missing the veins is the key. Just a thought for all the other Humira kiddos :)

Hey Kathy, I read this and thought it said not "helping"!!! I was worried for you and Brian! Whew:). Thanks for the tip. We haven't had any problems so far!

Ha Ha! Ya that'd be bad. We are doing great, crohn's wise...just had to figure out how to make the shot not hurt so bad! EJ must have bigger pain tolerance :) Tough Legs!!

yes, I forgot that part! The times it bled and you could tell we hit a vein are the times he'd cry out. The last few times with us being careful not to hit one it didn't bleed and he was ready for it to hurt and then was surprised it didn't.
