So, my hubby and I were shopping for groceries when I felt my stomach start to rumble in that ominous manner. I ducked out to go to the restroom and when I got in there I had horrible diarrhea, and the cramps were so bad that they made me gag and dry heave. Then I had a wave of cold go all the way through my body. My tongue started burning/ kind of went numb for a few minutes and I just knew that I was gonna pass out in the bathroom. The pain that I was having would go from the front of my abdomen to the back. I was cold sweating so bad that my hair/shirt was soaked. When I finally got out, I was really weak and still nauseous. I had my husband take me to the closest ER (which sucks). They got me checked in pretty quickly, and the nurse gave me Zofran, and put in my IV in triage, but she didn't want to start fluids until they got me into a room. So, I just had a loose IV in my arm... for six hours. They finally got me back into a room and ran some fluids, gave me some more zofran, and gave me toradol, which btw did not help with the tummy pain. I spent about 8 hours in the ER. The doctor wasn't even sure how to treat me, and the nurses were really rude. Anyone else have an experience like this. The tummy episode, not the bad ER trip. The tongue thing reallly freaked me out!

Oh you poor thing. I don't have advice for you, but just wanted to say that I'm so sorry you went through that. It's awful indeed. I hope things look up for you soon and you start to feel a little better.

When I have trouble in the ER, I always remind myself that those doctors are desensitized to people when it comes to pain because they deal with it ALL of the time. I try to be patient in my misery because I have to remember that they are just human and their only job is to stabilize me for a discharge. It's the same song and dance every time. "Go see a GI doctor" they say.

Anyway, here's to hoping you have a better day. {{{HUGS}}}

I'm so sorry for ya. That actually happened to me a month ago. I didn't get a numb tongue but I went to the bathroom in pain and took a shower to see if it would help and passed out in the shower after throwing up on myself. The ER was not helpful at all and honestly treated me like ****, i think b/c i have no insurance.

Hope you feel better.

Thanks guys! It was just a disappointing experience as far as our healthcare system goes. I actually have great insurance, so I don't think that was a factor. I think they just didn't know what they were doing.
