I have been a sufferer of Crohn's disease for several years now and and have been taking Azathioprine for more than 5 years now. Some 4 /5 years ago I also had an episode of Sarcoidosis which led to my being hospitalised on account of Hypercalcaemia. This was dealt with via several weeks of Prednisolone at a fatily high does which was then tapered off. Moving forwrd some 3 years, early last year I was taken off Azathioprine which led to a major flare up of the Crohns. It took the NHS 9 months to re-instate my medication.
For the last two months I have been suffering an unusual level of fatigue, which basically feels like coming down with the flu. It includes aching limbs and heavy legs from time to time, head cold type feeling but without the runny nose, occasional sneezing. I have have had a persistent joint ache in my right hip and sometimes need to be careful how I move or sit so as not to aggravate it. Other days its OK. My Crohn's has also been playing up quite a bit, primarily with excessive bloating and air. I can't think straight, can't seem to focus. I have to say that this has been going on some 2 months now and during this time I have been feeling awful, but trying my best to plod on and maintain a normal life. It is getting increasingly more difficult. My other worry is that I can't concentrate properly or carry out my job properly or even feel up to enjoying my hobbies.
I have visited my GP at least twice. He did carry out a blood test which, according to him, showed nothing unusual, so he thinks I am depressed. He put me on anti-depressants which I have now been taking for over a month. Initially I wasn't convinced but being unsure, I followed his advice and have been taking them regularly, but as time moves I increasingly convinced that this is not depression - although I freely admit that I am now rather fed up feeling like this.
I'm not sure what it going on or whether should let it run its course until I am eventually hospitalised, although I don't think I will get much in the way of help from my GP any time soon.
Can anyone suggest what may be going on and what I might be able to do to help myself?
