In the new study, a standardized (99.5%) curcumin preparation was administered to five people with ulcerative proctitis and to five with Crohn’s disease. subjects with Crohn’s disease took 360 mg of curcumin three times a day for one month, and then the same amount four times a day for another two months. Four of the five had improvements in their symptom scores (in other words, quality and frequency of stools, abdominal pain, and cramping).

I can vouch for those results. Only I used 2000mg split in two doses a day and the same of Ginger. Helped me out considerably. I later added Krill Oil into the mix. That eliminated my dandruff. Still take 500mg of Turmeric and Ginger a day just because it has so many other benefits.

I started taking Turmeric today. Couldn't find Ginger as supplement so maybe I'll drink it as Ginger tea. My main symptoms now are discomfort and pain in the terminal ileum. So I'm hoping the Turmeric will help resolve this inflammation.

I'm starting slow with 1 tablet per day, and then increase slowly to the dose on the bottle which is 3 tablets per day which is 1500mg. I'm using the one by Nature's Way....

The only thing I'm concerned is if it affects the gall bladder. I read that it may have such a negative effect

I'll update you on what happens

Do you have Gall Bladder problems? It should not affect anyone with a normal Gall Bladder. It just makes it a little more active.

Hi Dan. No I don't think so, at least the last CT scan I did 6 months ago showed a normal gall bladder.

But since I started taking Imuran my Bilirubin has been elevated. Do you think this is also related to gall bladder or only the liver as it is excreted in the bile?

Bilirubin is the yellow breakdown product of normal heme catabolism, formed by failing red blood cells. Bilirubin is excreted in bile, and its levels are elevated in certain diseases. It is responsible for the yellow colour of bruises and the yellow discolouration in jaundice. Bilirubin reduction in the gut leads to a product called urobilinogen which is then oxidized to urobilin which is excreted in the urine.

I have always heard that this indicates some kind of Liver problem if it is at extremely high levels. Mine has varied from one blood test to another, for no particular reason, but all in the range they call normal. There was no drugs involved with these tests, but various supplements.

I am not aware of a connection to the Gall Bladder, but I do not know much about it.

About the only thing I have heard about the Gall Bladder, is it either works well or doesn't. Stones are the most common ailment. I really have never heard of any other problem with the Gall Bladder that is common. I am sure there are some other conditions, but they must not be very common.

I do not think there is any relationship between Wormwood and Turmeric. Turmeric and Ginger are in the same family. Tarragon is related to Wormwood. That seems kind of weird.

I don't supplement but I include tumeric and ginger quite often when cooking.
Probably 2-3 times/wk. I've always wonderer if it was enough to really get any benefit from....besides yummy recipes and good tea.

I think every little bit helps. It has been noted that Indian food which uses lots of Curcumin seems to prevent the people that eat it from having IBD.

I like the idea of a diet to help the disease. It is more of a lazy mans way of treating disease.

I've always had turmeric as my mom always put it in my food since I was a kid. When I got crohn's when i was 16 and till now it hasn't been aas strong a disease as others experience on the site.
