UK Blue Badge/Disability Parking Badge

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone in the UK managed to get a blue badge/disability badge for parking?

I'm always in the need to rush to the washroom when flaring and in pain and very difficult for me. I tried to to apply, but it was tuned down as they said I do not have a physical disability when walking. Sometimes I need to park as close as possible to the store otherwise I'm in serous trouble, as I start to cramp and bleed - I can't even move and get stranded - it's horrible.

My husband has to also drop me of closer and then find parking and he is forever stopping on yellow lines as I rush to a washroom in a pub or anywhere possible.

Someone suggested I contact my local MP when I try applying again!. I live in the Hillingdon Borough in Ruislip.

If anyone has any suggestions it will really be appreciated.

hmm, had a look at my local authority about it,and they say no, but i was going to apply for the sake of it, but they want me to pay an administration charge, so im not going to,

Every attempt that I've heard of has failed.

If there was even a slight possibility of this happening then we'd probably get free prescriptions too (which doesn't happen either).

I'm going to contact my local MP and try and keep trying. I cant stop trying.


Medication wise you pay arounf £80 and that you will get a certificate that covers your presciption costs for the year. It's well worth it.

it was only about £2, but its still the principle of it.
I dont pay for my prescriptions luckerly, coz i dont work so i get an exemption certificate that covers dentist,doctors,opticians etc

Thanks - administration fee....in others words ways for them to make money!

What gets to me is that other diseases are exempt. Whats the difference? I'm sure there is probably some bureaucratic checklist that means we fall short somehow.

True - it's not fair, but then life is not either!

My neighbour has a blue badge for Crohn's and has no walking difficulties. She has had a large amount of her bowel removed due to the disease. Do you think this makes a difference to whether you can get a blue badge in relation to Crohn's? So how come she is eligible when others on here say they are not is something I do not understand. No issues with her limbs.

I had a blue badge for 2 years but that was for my other 8 illnesses. I tried before i was on PIP and got rejected, 4 months later i got PIP and had tmenough mobility points to get the badge without having to have another assesment (as PIPs one is very hard to pass). My mums partner had the sme thing, and he has spinal problems.! Literally the only way they judge is distance you can walk, i have a wheelchair on bad days and for when i cant walk any further and i have been turned down for PIP and blue badge even though i had both and my health is worse! The walking distance is max of 50m. Most say 20m max to get the badge. They really do need to change it and consider more than a one off walk distancd on a good day.

I have a blue badge as got awarded pip both living & mobility (standard) so that gave me the blue badge. I would definitely suggest applying for pip & then base your answers on your worse days. Crohns is such a disabalitating condition that it needs to be noticed as such.. I do have arthritis with the crohns & fibromyalgia so struggle walking far unaided but the assessment was based primarily on my Crohns..
