I had my colonoscopy today. Afterward, the doctor said no sign of IBD. Which is great. He said he wants to see me in 2 weeks and talk about putting me on a high fiber diet. ( I avoid high fiber now because it give me diarrhea and abdominal pain)
Anyway, the summary says Mild proctitis in the anus, and then says normal colon mucosa; possible mild proctitis. Multiple biopsies taken.

Isn't proctitis inflammation?

Thanks for any feedback.

Usually there is inflammation with proctitis. Were you originally diagnosed with IBD or, are you currently undiagnosed? What were your symptoms before having the colonoscopy? Good luck with that appt in a couple weeks! Please keep us updated.

Thanks for your response. I am undiagnosed. My primary care physician scheduled a colonoscopy because he suspected IBD. I have chronic diarrhea (6+ times per day) and abdominal pain that has been happening on and off for about 5 years. I just finally decided to see someone. With the onset of menopause last summer and the constant digestive problems, I was feeling very run down.
I came to this forum after the doctor mentioned IBD. Now I am wondering about microscopic colitis. I guess I'll just have to see what the biopsies say.

I agree with UnXmas. Proctitis is inflammation, but not always IBD. It can have an infectious root cause or be caused by irritation from anal sex or even the bowl prep used before colonoscopy. There are several possibilities for what causes proctitis and most are not chronic conditions.
