Hello everyone!

My name is Sarah, I'm 19 years old and I just found this support forum today and so far, it has been really helpful to read all of your stories as you struggle with your diseases. The thing is, I'm in the middle of a fiasco. I really don't even know where to begin.

I guess I'll begin with, since the age of about 8/9 I have had an issue with constipation and stomach pain. I remember sitting on the toilet for hours and hours, crying out in pain. Well, my mother took me to my pediatrician and she just told my mother to keep me on a high-fiber diet, which she did. I've had a few run ins with those problems since then but nothing major - until now.

Anyways, fast forward nearly ten years and I'm having stomach problems again, except this time, way worse! It all started around two weeks ago when my stomach started feeling really funny. It was just uncomfortable, I had really bad gas and felt nauseous all day. Later that night, I ended up vomiting but just took it for the seasonal flu and attempted to go to bed.

After maybe twenty minutes in bed, I woke up in a dire need to get to the toilet. I mean, it was really disgusting. I couldn't stop vomiting, had constant diarrhea and severe stomach pain. My parents ended up taking me to the ER where they said it was just the stomach flu and sent me on my merry way.

I was okay with that until it started getting a lot worse. The stomach pain is out of this world pain. I mean, it brought me to my knees in tears while the nausea and vomiting has not since stopped. Along with an on-again off-again battle between constipation and diarrhea.

I've been in the ER FOUR times in the last two weeks, yes four times! That's why this week has been so miserable, ha. I really hate ERs. Anyways, in the ER they really couldn't find anything wrong with me. They've done X-Rays, MRI's, ultrasounds and CT Scans and nothing has shown up.

At first they were thinking the gallbladder but after all of those tests they ruled it out. So, I ended up being admitted to the hospital for two days just because they said being in the ER three times (at that time it was only three times) in one week led to an admittance.

When I was discharged from the hospital, that's when the doctor gave me an all-clear on the gallbladder and suggested that it may be IBS or another IBD disorder. My mother has suffered with IBS for nearly 25 years now and says that my symptoms are a lot worse than the ones she's had or has ever even heard of.

I have an appointment with a GI doctor on the 18th and am really hoping for some answers. I'm really suffering here and I'm starting to feel like everyone (including the doctors) think that this is all in my head.

Does anyone have any kind of advice to offer me? Or does this sound like anything anyone else has ever gone through? I'm really feeling helpless. :(

you really are not alone, when i initially flared up i had never even heard of ibd or ibs even really and was very scared and in alot of pain. I went to my gp so many times and was given so many courses of ibs pills and told they would clear it up which of course they never did. Seeing a GI and then being diagnosed and finally knowing the cause was an immense relief although a shock too at having ibd, hospital docs and gp's in my experience know very little about these things and go based on general knowledge, i really hope you get some answers and relief soon as i know the worst thing is the not knowing whats wrong

Hi and welcome. Sorry you're feeling so sick.

For now I'd suggest a low fiber diet. Also keep a food/symptom journal. You might be able pinpoint foods causing a problem.

Stay away from raw veggies. Cook them to mush so they pass easily. You could try cutting out milk products and wheat.

Hopefully this helps relieve some of your symptoms. If not, try a liquid diet.

Sending you my support. I hope you get answers soon.

Hello DJW and Splasher!

Thanks so much for your replies and advice. I'm so happy to find a place where I'm not alone with what I'm struggling with. Doctors can be a pain sometimes but we still have to deal with them. Anyways, thanks again for the kind words! As for the diets and journals, I'll start them right away! :)

Hi Sarah, you're definitely not alone, a lot of us have similar experiences both with diagnosis (which can take forever!) and coping with all this every day. A low residue diet definitely helps plus fibre supplements to make up for what you're not getting from your diet. I've just started having Ensure liquid food to get my calories up and slow down the weight loss, they're not bad!!

I ended up in hospital fir 4 days I hadn't been well for months and months abdo pain vomiting and the trots and last week it came to a head when I woke up in agony with big cramps in my tum and pain down my right side I went to the doc told him of the pain and loosing so much weight he had a feel and found a lump he ordered some blood tests and found my CPR was up indicating an abscess I added up in hospital and in mop hi fir the pain they done a ct scan and it showed an abscess in my small bowels they said it was a secondry infection to Crohn's I didn't know I had they said that was the likely cause so is that a diagnoses ?

Hi Sarah, and welcome. So truly sorry to hear of your pain, discomfort, and fright. It IS frightening, and I absolutely hate it when docs tend to ALWAYS pass everything abdominal off as "the flu". Or a "stomach bug"…. it's so EASY. The easy way out. It sucks, big time, and is simply unacceptable. I'm hoping you will soon be getting some answers which you deserve. Keep after them. And feel better! SOON !!! ;)
