I am still waiting for my Colonoscopy since I had to reschedule. I have a question though. I have frequent episodes of D and it is a yellow color, like water and it floats on the surface of the water and some of it sinks. It looks really greasy (sorry, I know tmi )

I am just wondering if this is a common occurrence in folks who have IBD?

My symptoms that brought me here to date are:

  • Diarrhea alternating with Constipation, more D though
  • Stomach Pain, lower right and recently switched to Mid left area too
  • Anemia
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches (Migraines)
  • Nausea
  • Joint Pain & Swelling
  • hx of probable Autoimmune Hepatitis
  • occasional mucus in stool when its at its normal appearance
  • occasional blood when I wipe but that has been several months apart each time it occured, and it was bright red to pink. I shrugged it off at the time thinking I may have scratched myself or something. It does not happen often, maybe once every 6 months or so.

I will just say I have D more often than I have normal or constipated BM`s I have it for weeks and then maybe go a week if that long with what I would term "normal" BM and then right back to the big D again. I have had a couple occasions of loss of bowel control no cramping or anything to warn me just felt like I had to pass gas and well you know the rest of the story.

I have recently been dx with a Hiatial Hernia and Bile Reflux. Other than that my Gallbladder is fine, liver appears fine on CT scan. I have had elevated liver enzymes for years but nothing too severe. I was told it was probable Autoimmune Hepatitis but nothing definitive.

I am in limbo land here, wondering if it might be some sort of IBD. Of course like many of us here I have been told in the past that I had IBS. Go figure!

Hi Tired, I've had that happen too - where it's like orangey-yellow oil floating in the toilet water with the stool. Apparently that is undigested fat - it turns from a solid into a liquid from the heat of the body, that's why it looks like oil. I think the yellowish stools can be due to inflammation too. I'm undiagnosed myself so I can't give you much more insight than that, but I have had it happen too so you are not alone.

The blood when you wipe sounds like it is from a fissure or maybe a hemmie. Those are usually the causes of bright red blood, and fissures in particular may just make themselves known by causing a bit of blood when you wipe. I have had many small fissures over the years and that's how mine act too. It's basically like getting a small cut or tear in the anal area, like a papercut for your bottom. :p Mine usually heal within a few days or a few weeks at most.

Thanks Cat-a-Tonic, That was my thinking exactly with regards to the blood which is why I never read much into it and never told my GI about it. Knowing that Crohn's causes blood in the stools I just wondered if maybe somehow it was connected.

Hopefully one day I will have an answer, mean time I will continue being run through the mill :)
