I am currently undiagnosed. All of this started a a few months ago. I was getting nauseate every time I ate and was losing weight. I was on Topamax for what my dr thought was migraines (light and sound did not bother me, just headaches daily). Went to my primary (who I no longer see) mashed on my stomach near the epigastric area and said "Oh you are nausea and losing weight because you are not eating due to what seems like Acid reflux, Gastrisis, and Ulcers. Put me on two new medications for 2 months. Took the medicine for a month and saw no improvement.
I then decided I should switch Dr's. I found a new one that immediately took me off Topamax, Protonix, and Sucralfate. He did a full thyroid panal (one was never done just a low level thyroid test and put me on medication), and about 6 more blood test. I was told to come back in a week. Went back and had not gain any weight, had actually lost a pound or two. He took me out of work for a week. He asked me about my bowel habits and anything else. I said yea they have changed and I have a pain in my right lower side. I have a history of cyst but this felt different and I knew it was not my appendix since the pain would go and come.
He decided that I should have a Upper/Lower GI series. Had that done that week and they found inflammation and ulcers in the terminal ilium.
Went to the GI for follow up appointment and saw that the ulcers were very tiny but I was still in some pain. He wanted me to have a CT scan within the week so I took off work for 12 hours and had a CT scan with contrast the next morning. It showed inflammation, and mild thickening in the terminal ilium.
I was given Entocort 9mg for 4 weeks, then I drop to 6mg for 2 weeks, then 3 mg for 2 weeks.
I've been on 9mg for almost 3 1/2 weeks. I've seen some improvement, but then again I will hurt. I'm still trying to figure out my diet and trying to stay away from the foods I love. Its been difficult at work (work 24 hour shifts). Hopefully I am getting the hang of what I can eat and what to stay away from.

welcome to the forum, wow 24hr shifts must stuck, I do 12hrs and that kills me.

Yeh finding what food and drink is a bit of a struggle but you do get somewhere in the end (even if you give into temptation now and then :p)

Hope the drugs work for you

Hi tink and welcome!

What else does the GI feel they need to do for a diagnosis? Are they leading towards Crohn's Disease?

It's good to have you here and I hope you start feeling better soon!

Working long shifts will not help as i do them too . But working on a food diary can help get you some control and recognition of what will set you off. Not having the things we like is a real trade off for trying to feel normal but we get used to it. It does take some getting used too but knowing what you have is big plus i believe. You have something that has a name and is recognised so it can be measured and treated.
For me i just concentrate on being healthy at work and getting rest when i can.
Welcome to the Forum and I hope you have a better day tomorrow,
Peter

Hello tink and welcome to the forum. I was also wondering what your docs were leaning towards diagnosis wise based on your treatment? Do you have any follow up appts booked with them to discuss things? It is definetly worth starting a food diary as this can at least help pick out foods that will give you grief whether you're in a flare up or not.

Will keep fingers crossed that you will be feeling better soon.

They said no gluten intolerance, blood work and biopes were negative for that, but GI said I could still be sensitive to gluten.
They said it could be Crohn's but they want me to take Entocort for 2 months and see how I feel. No follow up appt scheduled, but I am to call a few days after I finish the medication and return to my regular diet and see how I feel. They are hoping that the medication with reduce the inflammation and help heal the ulcers and that will be the end of it. GI Dr said that they see alot of young females with this LRQ pain and after the Entocort they have no more issues and the Dr's have not seen them sense.
I hope that is the case but right now it a waiting game and hoping the medications work.
