Unusual pain

For the past week I have been getting shooting pains in my big toe on my right foot, the pain goes up my foot when this happens. I don't know why it happens I can't find any pattern. I am currently on methotrexate which I have read can cause gout but I have no swelling around my toe. Anyone have any Ideas? I am going to the doctors about this as its starting to bug me now.
I have got a bruise on my toenail and there is now a lump near the nailbed but I didn't injure my toe in any way this bruise thing has been there for about 2months now. I don't know if this is linked.

May be a blood clot. When pain shoots up that is not a good sign. I would suggest you call doc and see if they suggest emergency room. Please attend to asap.
