Hey Everyone,
Okay, so my GI doctor called me back on Friday and I told him about the anal irritation and pain I was having. He said to just use vaseline or maybe a zinc paste on the area to protect it. I do not have an appt. with him until May 13th. I was hoping to get in earlier but no such luck.
I have not been diagnosed with Crohns at this point, he says IBS due to all my tests i Had in the past were negative. Though my symptoms do not really fit IBS. IBS is usually constipation or diarrhea or both alternating. My main issue when it first started 5 years ago was just awful intestinal pain that left me sitting with a heating pad all day long! I did not know IBS could cause this.
Anyhow, fast forward to last July, I started having some softer stools. Still once a day, but a couple times It bordered on Diarrhea. Not sure what kicked it off at the time, may of been a medication I was taking for my other health issue but not sure. Anyhow, my stools were not the same since then. They are always soft and messy( meaning I have to wipe a lot to get clean). I am as gentle as I can be but it takes me literally over a roll just to get clean.
A month ago I noticed a small hard lump near my labia on the left side. It was not painful at all so I just assumed it was a ingrown hair follicle or gland or something like that. I had something similar a few years ago and it just disappeared on it's own. Well this one got bigger so I started putting hot compresses on it to bring it to a head. It started getting a white head and leaking a little, but not enough. I finally broke down and went to my dermatologist and she said it was an abscess, she lanced it and drained it and sent the stuff that came out of it to pathology. It came back showing e-coli which she said was common due to the area it was in. She said it was likely an infected hair follicle or gland that started it.
That all happened like almost a month ago. This last week I have been having more pain ( like irritation) in my anal area and around the area. My regular primary care doc gave me this Protozone HC 2.5% cortisone to use on the area and in the anal area for possible hemorrhoids. I thought maybe it was helping a little with the inside achy pain after using it for three nights in a row. Well this morning I went to have a BM and now my whole anal area is sooooo irritated and burning! When I went into the shower after using the toilet( I have to clean very well due to UTI risks as I am super prone to them due to my bladder disease (Interstitial Cystitis). Well when I soaped the area and rinsed it felt all burny and it was stinging. I applied some Aquaphor healing ointment on it after I Showered. It is like vaseline.
I also got my period so that is not helping matters. What can I put on that area to heal it?? I mean I thought about just using the cortisone cream but I feel that would maybe make things worse( maybe it could cause yeast or infection?) so I just used the aquaphor healing ointment, but it is still uncomfortable.
I am scared I will get an abscess or something due to all the irritation down there. I mean I am clean, but still, you always are going to have bacteria down there from what my GI said no matter how well you clean. I am scared I may have undiagnosed Crohns. I mean I got that abscess on my labia and this is the first time that has ever happened to me! My GI says it was probably nothing more than an infected hair follicle or gland! I mean it may have been just that, but I am worried now. I mean I am just trying to put all my symptoms together and such. What causes abscesses to form? I would think it would be from irritation and infection right? Well the anal area is full of bacteria.Sorry if I am babbling here, I am just frustrated and in pain.
Does anyone else have a VERY irritated anal area on here?? And if so what can I do to stop the irritation but at the same time prevent infection from setting in? Thank GOD I usually only have BM once a day and sometimes every other day otherwise I cannot even imagine the agony my Anus would be in! This is bad enough. I saw the calmoseptine at the store but notice it has Menthol in it. I think that would be irritating to inflamed skin wouldn't it? Any ideas are appreciated.
