E was diagnosed with Crohn's in Nov 2014 and had a kidney stone the following week. jump forward to today....

we have switched to a new primary GI (same hospital but now have the ped IBD specialist). she is now taking methotrexate and has had two loading doses of remicade. she goes for her third infusion next week. at her second dose, some of her inflammatory markers were in normal ranges!

She took her LAST DOSE of prenisolone yesterday. She is doing amazingly well and has more energy than I have seen her with in years. She helped us tear down the old swing set yesterday and lasted longer than two minutes!

She was very excited to stop the prednisolone (I am glad it is done as well). Her side effects were relatively minimal (round face, hairy back, bit of a mustache, lack of focus, more temperamental than normal). The round face started to thin as we were finishing the taper, but how long for the other effects to dissipate?

The other reason for my anxiety is ...once you stop the predniolsone, how long before you really know whether the remicade is working. Should I be concerned about a bad day or two, or only if she has a string of bad days?

For us, we knew right away. As soon as we tried a new level on the taper symptoms reappeared. Our doc asked us to call him after 3 days or sooner if it was really bad. We did an extremely slow taper and it never really worked and this is why he wanted to add methotrexate. Remi was doing the heavy lifting but needed a little something to get her into solid remission. We added a course of EEN and it worked. Stayed in remission with REmi alone for another year. We eventually added mtx but that was more for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

So glad you are experiencing some relief. I hope it gets better and better!

That's great that she's doing so well. If she's managed to stop the pred without a return of symptoms then hopefully the Remicade is working well without it

Agreed, for us is was right away.
I'm so very happy for you guys,
I loved seeing Grace's energy return.

Hi we are on 10mg pred tapering every week. He has had 3 doses of remicade and when I asked last week at the third one I was told that the steroid was not at a level to be maintaining how well he is, that it was the remicade. So it sounds like the remicade is doing its job for you

YEA - a week on no prednisolone and still doing well. off for remicade infusion #3 tomorrow. and for the first time in at least 2 years.....I am culling out E's clothes, not because they are worn out, but because they are too small!!!

:dusty::dusty::dusty::dusty:

Great News! Infusion day for us tomorrow as well. I'm excited for official height/weight. I've grown to love cleaning out the closet of too small clothes for them (not very happy when I have to do it for myself)
